LR Baggs Voiceprint DI

L.R. Baggs Voiceprint DI Acoustic Guitar Impulse Response Effects Pedal

Model: Voiceprint DI (LBVPRINTDI)

1. Introduction

The L.R. Baggs Voiceprint DI is an advanced acoustic amplification device designed to capture and reproduce the unique sonic characteristics of your acoustic guitar. Utilizing proprietary impulse response technology and the AcousticLive app on your iPhone, the Voiceprint DI creates a customized preset, or "Voiceprint," that replaces your pickup's signal for a highly accurate and natural acoustic sound. This manual provides instructions for setup, operation, and maintenance of your Voiceprint DI pedal.

2. Key Features

  • Voice Blending: Blends your instrument’s custom Voiceprint with your pickup signal for enhanced accuracy.
  • Anti-Feedback Control: Applies an anti-feedback profile for effective feedback suppression. Short press the Anti-FB footswitch for phase inversion.
  • Preset Selection: The Select knob scrolls through up to 99 instrument presets.
  • Mute/Bypass Footswitch: Mutes ¼" and XLR outputs. A long press bypasses the pedal entirely.
  • iPhone Compatibility: Compatible with iPhone 6 and later models for Voiceprint creation and app control.

3. Setup

3.1 Connecting the Pedal

  1. Connect your acoustic guitar to the INPUT jack on the side of the pedal.
  2. Connect the OUTPUT (¼" or XLR) to your amplifier, mixer, or audio interface.
  3. Connect the included power supply to the 9V DC input.

3.2 AcousticLive App Installation and Pairing

The Voiceprint DI requires the L.R. Baggs AcousticLive app for iPhone (iPhone 6 and later) to create Voiceprints. An Android equivalent app is also available. Download the app from your device's app store.

To pair your device with the pedal:

  1. Ensure the Voiceprint DI pedal is powered on.
  2. Open the AcousticLive app on your smartphone.
  3. Follow the app's instructions for pairing. Important: During the pairing process, press and hold down the Voice rotary knob on the pedal to enable pairing mode and display the pairing code for the app.

3.3 Creating a Voiceprint

Once paired, the app will guide you through the Voiceprint creation process:

  1. Plug your acoustic guitar into the pedal.
  2. Position your iPhone as instructed by the app (typically near the guitar).
  3. Perform the required actions: tap on the bridge, strum chords, and pick strings. The app analyzes your guitar's timbre and playing response.
  4. The app will then generate and load a customized Voiceprint to your pedal.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Pedal Controls

  • Volume Knob: Adjusts the overall output volume of the pedal.
  • Voice Knob: Blends the custom Voiceprint with your pickup signal. Rotate to adjust the blend level.
  • Select Knob: Rotates through up to 99 stored instrument presets. Press to confirm selection.
  • Anti-FB Knob: Controls the intensity of the anti-feedback profile.
  • Pad Button: Engages an input pad for high-output pickups.

4.2 Footswitch Functions

  • Mute Footswitch: A single press mutes the ¼" and XLR outputs. Press again to unmute. A long press bypasses the entire pedal, removing all processing.
  • Next Footswitch: Advances to the next preset in your stored list.

4.3 App-Based Adjustments

The AcousticLive app provides advanced control over your Voiceprints and pedal settings:

  • EQ Adjustments: Fine-tune the equalization for individual Voiceprints or apply a master EQ that affects both the dry and wet signals. This allows for specific tonal shaping for different playing styles (e.g., heavy strumming vs. fingerpicking).
  • Anti-Feedback Profile Customization: Adjust the notch filter's width and depth for the anti-feedback profile. To create an anti-feedback profile, tap on your guitar bridge as instructed by the app.
  • Preset Management: Organize, rename, and store up to 99 Voiceprint presets.

5. Maintenance

  • Keep the pedal clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the pedal to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Do not attempt to open the pedal enclosure or perform unauthorized repairs. This may void your warranty.
  • Ensure proper power supply (9V DC, 500mA minimum) to prevent damage or performance issues.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Pedal Not Pairing with App: Ensure the pedal is powered on. During the app's pairing process, press and hold the Voice knob on the pedal to activate pairing mode.
  • No Sound Output: Check all cable connections (input, output, power). Ensure the pedal is not in Mute or Bypass mode. Verify volume settings on the pedal and connected equipment.
  • Excessive Noise/Hiss: This can sometimes occur. Try the following:
    • Ensure you are using a clean, isolated power supply.
    • Redo Voiceprints, adjusting the input gain in the app to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio.
    • Check for ground loops; use the GND LIFT switch on the rear panel if necessary.
  • Boomy or Unnatural Low End: This can be addressed through the app. Use the EQ features within the AcousticLive app to dial out excessive low frequencies from your Voiceprint. Experiment with microphone placement during Voiceprint creation.
  • App Compatibility: The AcousticLive app is designed for iPhone 6 and later. An Android version is also available. Ensure your device meets the minimum requirements.
