1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Ferrex 40V Cordless Circular Saw. This powerful and versatile tool is designed for efficient cutting of various wood materials. Featuring an LED light and laser guide, it enhances precision and visibility during operation. This manual provides essential information for safe and effective use, setup, operation, and maintenance of your circular saw. Please read it thoroughly before first use and keep it for future reference.

Note: This product is supplied as a bare unit. Battery and charger are not included and must be purchased separately.

2. General Safety Instructions

Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this manual handy for quick reference.

2.1. Work Area Safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2.2. Electrical Safety (Battery Specific)

  • Use only the specified battery pack and charger for this tool. Using other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
  • Do not expose battery packs to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a battery pack will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not short-circuit a battery pack.
  • Do not dispose of battery packs in a fire. They may explode. Check with local codes for possible special disposal instructions.

2.3. Personal Safety

  • Always wear eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) and hearing protection.
  • Wear a dust mask when working in dusty environments.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

2.4. Circular Saw Specific Safety

  • DANGER: Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep your second hand on the auxiliary handle, or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
  • Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.
  • Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade should be visible below the workpiece.
  • Never hold the workpiece in your hands or across your leg while cutting. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform.
  • Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring.
  • When ripping, always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.
  • Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbor holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run eccentrically, causing loss of control.
  • Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt. The blade washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.

2.5. Laser Safety

  • WARNING: Do not stare directly into the laser beam. Direct exposure to the laser beam can cause eye injury.
  • Do not aim the laser beam at people or animals.
  • Do not use optical instruments (e.g., binoculars, telescopes) to view the laser beam.
  • Ensure the laser is switched off when not in use.

4. Setup and Assembly

Before any assembly, adjustment, or maintenance, ensure the battery pack is removed from the tool to prevent accidental starting.

4.1. Installing the Saw Blade

  1. Ensure the battery pack is removed.
  2. Press the spindle lock button to secure the saw blade.
  3. Using the provided hex key, loosen the blade retaining bolt by turning it counter-clockwise.
  4. Lift the lower blade guard and remove the outer flange and the old blade (if applicable).
  5. Place the new saw blade onto the spindle, ensuring the teeth are pointing in the direction of the arrow on the blade guard.
  6. Replace the outer flange and tighten the blade retaining bolt clockwise with the hex key. Do not overtighten.
  7. Release the spindle lock button.

Important: Always use sharp, undamaged blades suitable for the material being cut.

4.2. Attaching the Side Guide

The side guide (also known as a parallel guide) helps to make straight cuts parallel to the edge of the workpiece.

  1. Slide the side guide into the slots on the front of the saw's base plate.
  2. Adjust the guide to the desired cutting width.
  3. Tighten the locking screw or lever to secure the side guide in place.

4.3. Battery Installation and Removal

This circular saw operates with a 40V battery pack (not included).

  • To Install: Align the battery pack with the receptacle on the tool and slide it in until it clicks securely into place.
  • To Remove: Press the battery release button and slide the battery pack out of the tool.

Ensure the battery is fully charged before use. Refer to your battery charger's manual for charging instructions.

4.4. Adjusting Cutting Depth

The cutting depth should be set so that the blade extends approximately 3-6mm below the workpiece.

  1. Loosen the depth adjustment lever/knob.
  2. Raise or lower the base plate to achieve the desired cutting depth. Use the depth scale for reference.
  3. Tighten the depth adjustment lever/knob securely.

4.5. Adjusting Bevel Angle (0-45°)

To make angled cuts, adjust the bevel angle of the saw.

  1. Loosen the bevel adjustment lever/knob.
  2. Tilt the base plate to the desired angle (0-45°). Use the angle scale for reference.
  3. Tighten the bevel adjustment lever/knob securely.

5. Operating Instructions

Always ensure all safety precautions are followed before operating the saw.

5.1. Starting and Stopping the Saw

  • To Start: Depress the safety lock-off button (if present) and then squeeze the trigger switch. The saw will start.
  • To Stop: Release the trigger switch. The blade will stop rotating.

Allow the blade to reach full speed before beginning a cut.

5.2. Using the LED Light and Laser Guide

The integrated LED light and laser guide assist in making accurate cuts.

  • The LED light typically activates automatically when the trigger is pressed, illuminating the cutting area.
  • The laser guide projects a line onto the workpiece, indicating the cutting path. Ensure the laser is aligned with your marked cut line.

5.3. Making a Cut

  1. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement during cutting.
  2. Set the desired cutting depth and bevel angle.
  3. Position the front edge of the saw's base plate on the workpiece, ensuring the blade is clear of the material.
  4. Align the blade or laser guide with your marked cut line.
  5. Start the saw and allow the blade to reach full speed.
  6. Slowly and steadily push the saw forward through the workpiece. Do not force the saw; let the blade do the work.
  7. Maintain a firm grip on both handles.
  8. Once the cut is complete, release the trigger switch and allow the blade to stop completely before lifting the saw from the workpiece.

Kickback Prevention: Avoid binding the blade. Do not cut wet or warped wood without proper support. Always maintain a firm grip and proper stance.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your circular saw. Always remove the battery pack before performing any maintenance.

6.1. Cleaning

  • After each use, clean the saw thoroughly. Remove sawdust and debris from the motor vents, blade guard, and base plate.
  • Use a soft brush or compressed air for cleaning. Do not use water or solvents.
  • Keep the lower blade guard clean and free-moving. Ensure it retracts smoothly.

6.2. Blade Replacement

Replace dull or damaged blades promptly. Refer to Section 4.1 for detailed instructions on installing the saw blade.

  • Always use blades with the correct diameter and arbor size.
  • Ensure the blade is rated for the maximum RPM of the saw.

6.3. Storage

  • Store the circular saw in a clean, dry place, out of reach of children.
