5. Setup
5.1 Mat Placement
- Place the snow melting mat(s) on the desired outdoor surface (concrete, asphalt, stone, wood decks).
- Ensure the area is clear of existing snow, ice, and debris before placing the mat.
- For composite/plastic decks, place plywood underneath the mat to allow heat to distribute properly and prevent adverse effects to the deck material.
- The mat features grommet holes in each corner. While not strictly necessary for operation, you may use these to secure the mat in place with screws or anchors (not included) to prevent shifting.
5.2 Connecting Multiple Mats (Optional)
The DR-101 mats are designed to be interconnected to cover larger areas. Each mat has male and female connectors.
- Align mats so that the male and female connectors are on the same side.
- Connect the male connector of one mat to the female connector of another. Ensure connections are tight and secure.
- A maximum of 5 mats can be connected to a single 15-Amp circuit.

5.3 Power Connection
- Connect the 10 Ft. GFCI power cord to the first mat in your series.
- Plug the GFCI power cord into a properly grounded 120V outdoor electrical outlet.
- The GFCI cable provides leakage protection and has overload/short circuit protection.
6. Operating Instructions
- Turn on the mats at least 30 minutes prior to expected snowfall for optimal performance. This allows the mats to heat up and melt snow on contact.
- If snow has already fallen, turning on the mats will still melt the snow, but it may take longer.
- Keep the mats on for a few hours after snowfall has stopped to ensure any water runoff does not freeze.
- The mats are efficient down to -5°F and can melt snow at a rate of approximately 2 inches per hour.
- To operate, press the 'Reset' button on the GFCI power unit. To turn off, press the 'Test' button.

7. Maintenance

- Ensure connectors are free of dirt and moisture before making connections.
8. Troubleshooting
- Mat not heating:
- Check if the GFCI power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet.
- Ensure the 'Reset' button on the GFCI is pressed (light should be on).
- Verify all mat connections are tight and secure.
- Confirm that the total number of connected mats does not exceed the 15-Amp circuit limit.
- Uneven melting:
- Ensure the mat is laid flat on the surface without any folds or creases.
- Check for any debris or objects on the mat that might be insulating it from the snow.
