Initial Configuration
Upon first power-on, the NVR will guide you through a setup wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to:
- Set up an administrator password.
- Configure date and time settings.
- Adjust network settings (DHCP is usually sufficient).
- Scan for and add connected IP cameras.
3. Operating the NVR
User Interface Navigation
Use the connected USB mouse to navigate the NVR's graphical user interface (GUI). Right-click to access the main menu, and left-click to select options or open sub-menus.
Live View
The Live View screen displays real-time video feeds from all connected cameras. You can customize the layout to view multiple cameras simultaneously.
Recording Modes
The NVR supports various recording modes, including continuous, scheduled, and motion-activated recording. Configure these settings in the NVR's menu under "Record" or "Schedule". The system is programmed to automatically overwrite the oldest footage when the hard drive is full.
Playback and Search
To review recorded footage:
- Standard Playback: Access the "Playback" menu to select a date, time, and camera channel for review.
- Area Search: Select an area of interest on the screen to quickly find and playback video footage showing scene changes within that specific region. This is ideal for monitoring doorways or driveways.
- Smart Search: Filter motion events by specific types, such as person or vehicle detection, to efficiently locate relevant footage.
Audio Functionality
The N882 Series NVR supports audio recording on every channel, provided you are using Lorex cameras with listen-in audio capabilities. Audio is transmitted directly through the same Ethernet cable as video data, eliminating the need for separate audio wiring.

Remote Viewing (Lorex Cloud App)
Download the Lorex Cloud app on your smartphone or tablet to access your NVR remotely. The app allows you to:
- View live camera feeds.
- Playback recorded video.
- Receive instant motion push notifications.
- Adjust camera settings.
Ensure your NVR is connected to the internet for remote access functionality.
4. Maintenance
Hard Drive Management
The NVR automatically manages storage by overwriting the oldest footage when the hard drives reach full capacity. Regular review of important footage and backing it up to external storage is recommended.
Firmware Updates
Periodically check the Lorex support website for firmware updates. Keeping your NVR's firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update carefully.
Cleaning
To maintain proper ventilation and prevent overheating, ensure the NVR's vents are clear of dust and obstructions. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
5. Troubleshooting
No Video Output to Monitor
- Ensure the HDMI/VGA cable is securely connected to both the NVR and the monitor.
- Verify the monitor is powered on and set to the correct input source (HDMI/VGA).
- Try a different HDMI/VGA cable or monitor to rule out faulty equipment.
Cameras Not Displaying
- Check that cameras are properly connected to the NVR's PoE ports.
- Ensure Ethernet cables are not damaged.
- Verify that the cameras are powered on (indicated by LEDs on some models).
- Access the NVR's camera management settings to ensure cameras are detected and added.
No Remote Access
- Confirm the NVR is connected to your router via an Ethernet cable and has internet access.
- Check your router's internet connection.
- Ensure the Lorex Cloud app is updated to the latest version.
- Verify NVR network settings (e.g., DHCP enabled).
