4. Setup and Installation

The BWM200 sensor is designed for Flange Mount installation. Follow these steps for proper setup:

  1. Mounting Location: Select a stable surface for mounting, ensuring the sensor's body is parallel to the direction of displacement to be measured.
  2. Secure the Body: Use the provided mounting brackets and M4 mounting screws to securely attach the sensor body to the fixed part of your application.
  3. Connect the Rod End: Attach the sensor's rod end to the moving part of your application. The rod end features an M4/0.16" thread, and a universal joint with an M5/0.2" thread is included for flexible connection. Ensure the rod moves freely without binding or excessive side loads.
  4. Wiring: Connect the 3 output wires to your control system. Refer to your system's documentation for specific wiring diagrams. Ensure correct polarity and voltage supply. The recommended current is ≤10uA.
  5. Verify Mechanical Stroke: Ensure the mechanical stroke of 203mm is not exceeded during operation to prevent damage to the sensor.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and wired, the BWM200 transducer provides a resistance output that changes linearly with the displacement of its rod. This resistance change can be converted into a voltage signal by your control system for position monitoring.

  • Power On: Apply the recommended power to the sensor and control system.
  • Calibration: If your application requires precise absolute positioning, perform a calibration procedure according to your control system's instructions. This typically involves moving the sensor rod to known minimum and maximum positions and recording the corresponding output values.
  • Monitoring: Monitor the output signal from the sensor via your control system. The signal will directly correspond to the linear position of the measured object.
  • Operating Speed: Ensure the maximum working speed of 10m/s is not exceeded to maintain accuracy and prevent wear.

6. Maintenance

The FIYA BWM200 is designed for low maintenance. However, periodic checks can extend its lifespan and ensure continued accuracy:

  • Cleaning: Keep the sensor body and rod free from dust, dirt, and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Mechanical Inspection: Periodically check the mounting screws and rod end connections for tightness. Ensure the rod moves smoothly without any obstruction or excessive play.
  • Cable Integrity: Inspect the wiring for any signs of damage, fraying, or loose connections.
  • Environmental Check: Verify that the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BWM200 transducer, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Output/Incorrect Reading:
    • Check all wiring connections for proper installation and continuity.
    • Verify power supply voltage and current are within specifications.
    • Ensure the sensor rod is moving freely and not mechanically jammed.
    • Confirm the control system is correctly configured to read the sensor's output.
  • Inconsistent Readings:
    • Check for excessive vibration or mechanical play in the mounting.
    • Inspect for environmental interference (e.g., strong electromagnetic fields).
    • Ensure the sensor is not operating beyond its mechanical stroke limits.
  • Physical Damage:
    • If the sensor shows signs of physical damage, it may need replacement.

If problems persist, contact technical support.
