1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Techwood Espresso Machine. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new appliance. Please read it thoroughly before first use and keep it for future reference.

This espresso machine is designed to prepare delicious espresso, cappuccino, and latte macchiato beverages using ground coffee or soft pods. It features a powerful 15-bar Italian pump, an 850W heating system, and a 1.6-liter water tank.

4. Setup

Before first use, ensure the machine is properly set up.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials. Keep the packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Placement: Place the espresso machine on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from water sources and direct sunlight. Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
  3. Clean Water Tank: Remove the water tank, wash it with mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Fill it with fresh, cold water up to the MAX level. Place it back securely.
  4. Initial Rinse Cycle: Before brewing coffee, perform an initial rinse cycle to clean the internal components.
    • Ensure the water tank is filled.
    • Place a large cup or container under the portafilter and steam wand.
    • Plug the machine into a grounded electrical outlet.
    • Press the power button to turn on the machine. Wait for the indicator light to stop blinking, indicating the machine is heated.
    • Press the single cup button to run water through the portafilter. Repeat for the double cup button.
    • Turn the steam knob to the steam position and press the steam button to release hot water/steam through the wand. Close the steam knob when done.
    • Discard the water from the cup/container and the drip tray.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Making Espresso (Ground Coffee)

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled with fresh water.
  2. Select the appropriate filter (single or double shot) and place it into the portafilter.
  3. Add desired amount of finely ground coffee to the filter. Do not overfill.
  4. Tamp the coffee evenly with a tamper (not included) to create a compact puck.
  5. Wipe any excess coffee from the rim of the portafilter.
  6. Attach the portafilter to the group head by aligning it and twisting firmly to the right until secure.
  7. Place one or two espresso cups on the drip tray, under the portafilter spouts.
  8. Press the power button to turn on the machine. Wait for the indicator light to become solid, indicating it's ready.
  9. Press the single cup or double cup button to start brewing. The machine will automatically stop when the programmed volume is reached.
  10. Once brewing is complete, carefully remove the portafilter by twisting it to the left. Dispose of the used coffee grounds.

5.2 Making Espresso (Soft Pods)

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled with fresh water.
  2. Select the soft pod filter and place it into the portafilter.
  3. Place one soft pod into the filter.
  4. Attach the portafilter to the group head and secure it.
  5. Place an espresso cup under the portafilter spout.
  6. Press the power button and wait for the machine to heat up.
  7. Press the single cup button to start brewing.
  8. Once brewing is complete, carefully remove the portafilter and dispose of the used pod.

5.3 Frothing Milk for Cappuccino/Latte

  1. Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (preferably whole milk) up to one-third full.
  2. Ensure the machine is powered on and heated. Press the steam button to activate the steam function. Wait for the steam indicator light to become solid.
  3. Position the steam wand just below the surface of the milk.
  4. Slowly turn the steam knob to release steam. Move the pitcher up and down to incorporate air and create foam.
  5. Once desired foam consistency is achieved, turn the steam knob to the off position and press the steam button to deactivate.
  6. Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.
  7. Pour the frothed milk into your espresso to create a cappuccino or latte.

5.4 Dispensing Hot Water

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Place a cup under the steam wand.
  3. Press the hot water button.
  4. Turn the steam knob to release hot water.
  5. Turn the steam knob to the off position when done.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your espresso machine.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

Depending on water hardness, descaling should be performed every 2-3 months to prevent mineral buildup.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the portafilter and steam wand.
  4. Turn on the machine and allow it to heat up.
  5. Run half of the solution through the portafilter by pressing the double cup button multiple times.
  6. Run the remaining half of the solution through the steam wand by activating the steam function.
  7. Turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Empty and rinse the water tank. Fill it with fresh water.
  9. Perform at least two full rinse cycles with fresh water through both the portafilter and steam wand to remove any descaler residue.
