Setup and Assembly

The assembly process for the Perfect Grade Unleashed RX-78-2 Gundam is designed to be a detailed and rewarding experience. It is recommended to have a clean, well-lit workspace and appropriate tools such as hobby nippers, a hobby knife, and tweezers.

1. Internal Skeletal Frame Assembly

Begin by assembling the internal skeletal frame. This kit features the largest insert-molded joint structure, allowing for immediate articulation after parts are cut from the runner. Pay close attention to the multi-layered structure and different colored parts (silver, gray, gold) to achieve the intended mechanical detail.

2. External Armor Application

Once the internal frame is complete, proceed with attaching the external armor. This kit utilizes various materials and finishes, including silver plating, chrome plating, gold plating, aluminum parts for vulcans and verniers, metallic 3D stickers, and photo-etch parts. Follow the instruction manual carefully for precise placement of each armor piece and detail part.

3. Decals and Finishing

Apply the included marking seals, namer seals, etching seals, and metallic 3D seals as indicated in the detailed instruction manual.

Operating Features

Your RX-78-2 Gundam model kit is equipped with several advanced features for display and interaction.

1. Articulation and Posing

The model boasts over 90 points of articulation, including working pistons and sliding mechanisms, with 40 points in the chest structure alone. This allows for highly dynamic and expressive posing. Gently manipulate joints to achieve desired stances. Avoid excessive force to prevent damage.

2. LED Lighting System

The model includes an LED beam saber and a color-changing LED unit in the head and chest. To activate, ensure LR41 batteries (sold separately) are installed in the LED unit and the BR435 lithium battery (for testing) is installed in the beam saber. The LED system allows for display in various states, simulating combat or maintenance modes.

3. Hatch Open Gimmick

Numerous maintenance hatches located throughout the RX-78-2 can be opened to reveal the highly detailed internal mechanisms. Gently open these panels to showcase the intricate inner workings of the model.

4. Magnetic Shield Attachment

A unique magnet system is integrated to support the massive shield on the arm. Ensure the metal plate for the magnet is correctly installed as per the assembly instructions for secure attachment.

Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity and appearance of your model kit.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush to gently remove dust from the model. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the plastic and painted surfaces.
  • Storage: Store the model in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent material degradation or discoloration.
  • Joint Care: If joints become loose over time, a small amount of clear nail polish or a specialized model kit joint tightener can be applied to the peg and allowed to dry before reassembly.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries for the LED unit and beam saber as needed. Refer to the "Operating Features" section for battery types.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter during or after assembly.

  • Parts do not fit together:
    • Ensure you are using the correct parts as indicated in the instruction manual.
    • Check for any excess plastic (nubs) left from the runners and carefully trim them with a hobby knife.
    • Apply gentle, even pressure. Do not force parts, as this can cause breakage.
  • LEDs not lighting up:
    • Verify that batteries are inserted with correct polarity (+/-).
    • Check if the batteries are fresh and not depleted.
    • Ensure all connections for the LED unit are secure as per assembly instructions.
  • Model feels unstable or parts fall off:
    • Double-check that all major joints and connections are fully seated.
    • For parts that repeatedly detach, consider applying a very small amount of plastic cement (for permanent bond) or clear nail polish (for removable bond) to the peg or joint.
  • Decals/Stickers not adhering:
    • Ensure the surface is clean and free of dust or oils.
    • For metallic 3D stickers or etching seals, if adhesion is poor, a tiny dot of clear-drying adhesive can be used.
