5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the transceiver is powered off.
  2. Align the Lithium-Ion battery pack with the battery compartment on the back of the transceiver.
  3. Gently push the battery into place until it clicks securely.
  4. If applicable, secure the battery latch.

5.2. Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the battery. The transceiver charges via its dedicated charging base.

  1. Connect the power adapter to the charging base and plug it into a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Place the transceiver (with battery installed) into the charging base. Ensure the charging contacts align.
  3. The charging indicator light on the base will illuminate, typically red for charging and green for fully charged.
  4. A full charge usually takes several hours. Do not overcharge the battery for extended periods.

5.3. Antenna Attachment

  1. Screw the antenna clockwise onto the connector on the top of the transceiver until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

  1. To power on the transceiver, rotate the top-left knob (Power/Volume knob) clockwise until you hear a click and the display illuminates.
  2. Continue rotating the knob clockwise to increase the volume, and counter-clockwise to decrease it.
  3. To power off, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.

6.2. Channel Selection

The Dynascan R-400 features 8 PMR-446 channels.

  1. Rotate the top-right knob (Channel Selector knob) to choose your desired channel from 1 to 8.
  2. Ensure all transceivers you wish to communicate with are set to the same channel.

6.3. Transmitting and Receiving

  1. To receive a transmission, simply ensure the transceiver is powered on and set to the correct channel. The speaker will output incoming audio.
  2. To transmit, press and hold the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button located on the side of the transceiver. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  3. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and return to receive mode.

6.4. VOX Function (Voice Operated Transmission)

The VOX function allows hands-free transmission by detecting your voice.

6.5. CTCSS/DCS Tones (Subtones)

The R-400 supports 50 CTCSS and 104 DCS subtones. These tones help filter out unwanted conversations on the same channel.
