MIYAY Professional Metal Detector User Manual

Model: TCQ-MIYAY

1. Safety Information

To ensure safe and optimal operation of your MIYAY Metal Detector, please observe the following guidelines:

  • Avoid exposing the detector to extreme temperatures. Do not store it in hot vehicles or leave it outdoors in freezing conditions.
  • Keep the detector clean by wiping the housing after each use. The search coil can be washed when necessary.
  • Protect the device from dust and sand.
  • Important: While the search coil is designed to be submerged in water, the control box is not waterproof. Never immerse the control box and shield it from heavy mist, rain, or splashing water.
  • After using the detector in sandy areas, disassemble the stem and clean it thoroughly.
  • For extended storage (longer than approximately one month), remove the batteries from the device to prevent leakage and damage.

2. Product Overview and Components

LCD Display Indicators:

  • Depth Indication: Shows the approximate depth of the detected target.
  • Target Indicator Numeric: Displays a numerical value corresponding to the detected metal type.
  • Disc Digital Indicator: Indicates discrimination settings.
  • Power Display: Shows current battery level.
  • Target Indicator: Visual representation of the detected target.
  • Sens/Signal Indicator: Displays sensitivity level and signal strength.

3. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble and prepare your metal detector for use:

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging.
  2. Install Batteries: Locate the battery compartment on the control box. Insert two 9V batteries (included) ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Attach Search Coil: Connect the search coil to the lower stem and secure it with the provided fasteners.
  4. Assemble Stem: Connect the lower stem to the middle stem, and then the middle stem to the upper stem (which includes the control box and handle). Ensure all connections are secure.
  5. Adjust Stem Length: Adjust the stem to a comfortable length for your height. The stem is adjustable from 43.3 inches (shortest) to 60.2 inches (longest). Secure the adjustment locks.
  6. Image showing a child and an adult using the metal detector, illustrating the adjustable stem length from 43.3 inches to 60.2 inches.

  7. Attach Arm Strap: Secure the adjustable arm strap for comfortable and stable operation.
  8. Connect Headphones: Plug the headphones into the designated jack on the control box.

4. Operating Modes

Your MIYAY Metal Detector features 5 distinct operating modes to optimize your search for various metal types:

Figure 4.1: The 5 distinct operating modes for varied detection needs.

  • ALL METAL MODE: This mode detects all types of metal objects. It is ideal for general searching when you want to find any metal. The display will show 6 types of targets.
  • DISC/NOTCH MODE: This mode allows you to selectively distinguish and eliminate unwanted metal types (e.g., iron, bottle caps) from your search. You can exclude specific targets to focus on desired metals like gold or silver.
  • MEMORY MODE: This mode allows the detector to remember and focus on specific metal types you have previously identified and want to find again.
  • JEWELRY MODE: Specifically designed to ignore iron and focus on detecting jewelry items.
  • PINPOINTER MODE (PP): This mode helps you pinpoint the exact location of a detected target, making excavation easier and more precise.

Sensitivity Adjustment:

The detector's sensitivity can be adjusted to suit different ground conditions and target depths. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also pick up more ground mineralization, leading to false signals. Adjust sensitivity using the controls on the LCD display.

Underwater Use:

The 10-inch search coil is waterproof, allowing for detection in shallow water, beaches, and riverbeds. Remember, the control box is not waterproof and must be kept dry.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your metal detector:

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the control box and stem with a damp cloth. If the search coil becomes dirty, it can be washed with water, but ensure the control box remains dry.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for more than one month, remove the batteries.
  • Battery Care: Always use fresh batteries. If the detector will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent corrosion.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your metal detector, try the following solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No power or erratic operationLow or dead batteries; incorrect battery installation; loose connections.Replace batteries with fresh 9V alkaline batteries. Ensure correct polarity. Check all cable connections are secure.
False signals or erratic beepingHigh sensitivity setting; electromagnetic interference; highly mineralized ground; nearby metal objects (e.g., fences, power lines).Reduce sensitivity. Move away from sources of interference. Try using DISC/NOTCH mode to filter out unwanted signals. Lift the coil slightly from the ground.
Cannot detect metal or poor detection depthLow sensitivity; incorrect mode; search coil not parallel to ground; target too deep.Increase sensitivity. Ensure you are in ALL METAL mode or an appropriate DISC/NOTCH setting. Sweep the coil parallel to the ground. The maximum detection depth is approximately 8.6 inches.
Display is dim or unreadableLow batteries; extreme temperatures.Replace batteries. Operate the detector within recommended temperature ranges.
