- Connect the charger adapter to the 6-way multi-unit charger station.
- Plug the adapter into a standard AC power outlet.
- Place the RT68 radios (with batteries installed) or individual batteries into the charging slots. Ensure proper alignment.

2. Installing the Battery and Belt Clip
- Align the battery with the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
- Gently push the battery until it clicks into place.
- To attach the belt clip, align it with the screw holes on the back of the radio and secure it with the provided screws.

3. Connecting the Earpiece
Insert the earpiece plug into the audio jack on the side of the radio. Ensure it is fully inserted for proper connection. The ear hook earpiece is designed for comfort and can be rotated for left or right ear use.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off and Volume Control
Rotate the Power/Volume knob (top-left knob) clockwise to turn the radio on. Continue rotating to increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and turn the radio off.
2. Channel Selection
Rotate the Channel Selector knob (top-right knob) to select one of the 16 available FRS channels. Ensure all radios in your group are set to the same channel for communication.
3. Transmitting and Receiving
- To Transmit: Press and hold the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone (located below the PTT button). Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and listen for a response.
- To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive signals on the selected channel.
4. Monitor Function
Press the Monitor button (usually a small button on the side, below PTT) to temporarily disable squelch and listen to all activity on the current channel, including weak signals. Release the button to return to normal operation.
5. VOX (Voice Operated Transmission)
The RT68 supports VOX, allowing hands-free transmission when using the earpiece. Refer to the full user manual for instructions on enabling and adjusting VOX sensitivity. When VOX is active, the radio will transmit automatically when it detects your voice.
6. CTCSS/DCS Codes (Privacy Codes)
Each channel can be preset with CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) or DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes. These codes help filter out unwanted conversations from other users on the same channel. Only signals with the matching CTCSS/DCS code will be heard. This effectively reduces irrelevant calls and background chatter.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's surface. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid overcharging and fully discharging the battery frequently. Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Storage: When storing the radios for extended periods, remove the batteries. Store in a dry, dust-free environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Avoid Water: The RT68 radios are not water-resistant. Avoid exposing them to rain, splashes, or submersion.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
No Power | Battery low or not installed correctly. | Charge the battery or re-install it properly. |
Cannot Transmit or Receive | Wrong channel selected; battery low; radio out of range. | Ensure all radios are on the same channel. Charge battery. Move closer to other radios. |
Poor Audio Quality / Static | Out of range; interference; low battery. | Move closer. Avoid sources of interference. Charge battery. |
Cannot Hear Others (but they hear you) | Volume too low; earpiece not connected properly; squelch too high. | Increase volume. Re-insert earpiece. Use Monitor function to check for signals. |
