  • Ensure the freezer is connected to a properly grounded electrical outlet.
  • Do not operate the freezer if the power cord is damaged.
  • Keep ventilation openings clear of obstruction.
  • Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this appliance.
  • Unplug the freezer before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
  • This appliance is intended for household use only.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Unpacking

  • Remove all packaging materials, including foam and adhesive tape.
  • Inspect the freezer for any damage during transit. Report any damage to your retailer immediately.

3.2 Location Requirements

  • Place the freezer on a firm, level surface that can support its weight when fully loaded.
  • Allow at least 4 inches (10 cm) of space around the back and sides of the freezer for proper air circulation.
  • Avoid placing the freezer in direct sunlight or near heat sources (e.g., stove, heater).
  • The ideal ambient temperature for operation is between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C).

3.3 Electrical Connection

Ensure the power outlet is a standard 115V, 60Hz, 3-prong grounded outlet. Do not use extension cords or ungrounded adapters.

3.4 Reversible Door Installation

The door on your Birsppy Upright Freezer is reversible, allowing it to open from either the left or right side. Instructions for reversing the door swing are provided in a separate diagram or can be found by contacting customer support. This process typically involves moving hinges and plugs from one side to the other.

3.5 Initial Cleaning and First Use

  • Before first use, clean the interior and exterior of the freezer with a mild detergent and warm water. Wipe dry thoroughly.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Temperature Control

The freezer is equipped with an adjustable thermostat located inside the unit. Turn the dial to adjust the temperature. A higher number typically indicates a colder setting. For optimal food preservation, maintain a temperature of 0°F (-18°C) or colder.

4.2 Food Storage Guidelines

  • Do not overload the freezer. Allow space for air to circulate around items.
  • Wrap food tightly in freezer-safe packaging to prevent freezer burn.
  • Avoid placing hot food directly into the freezer; allow it to cool first.

4.3 Defrosting

This freezer is a manual defrost model. Frost buildup on the interior walls is normal. When frost accumulation reaches approximately 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick, the freezer should be defrosted. To defrost:

  1. Unplug the freezer from the power outlet.
  2. Remove all food items and store them in another freezer or cooler.
  3. Leave the freezer door open to allow frost to melt. Place towels or a shallow pan at the bottom to collect water.
  4. Do not use sharp objects or heating devices to remove frost, as this can damage the freezer.
  5. Once defrosted, clean and dry the interior thoroughly before plugging it back in and returning food.

4.4 Energy Saving Tips

  • Ensure the freezer door is closed tightly and the gasket is sealing properly.
  • Avoid opening the door frequently or for extended periods.
  • Keep the condenser coils clean (located at the back of the unit).
  • Do not set the temperature colder than necessary.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Exterior: Clean the exterior surface with a mild detergent and warm water. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
  • Interior: Clean the interior with a solution of baking soda and water (1 tablespoon baking soda to 1 quart water). Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Door Gasket: Clean the door gasket regularly to ensure a proper seal.

5.2 Power Outage

In case of a power outage, keep the freezer door closed. Food will remain frozen for approximately 24 hours if the door is not opened. If the outage is prolonged, consider transferring food to another freezer or cooler with dry ice.

5.3 Moving the Appliance

When moving the freezer, ensure it is empty and unplugged. Secure the door with tape. Avoid tilting the freezer more than 45 degrees to prevent damage to the compressor. After moving, allow the freezer to stand upright for at least 2-4 hours before plugging it in again.
