5. Operating Instructions
5.1 General Operation
- Power On: Press the red power switch located on the side of the device. The LCD display will illuminate.
- Backlight: Press the 'Light' button to toggle the display backlight for improved visibility in various lighting conditions.
- Unit Selection: Use the 'Shift' button to cycle through available measurement units (NTU, EBC, ASBC). The active unit will be indicated by a light.
5.2 Calibration
Regular calibration ensures measurement accuracy. The device is capable of zero calibration.
- Prepare the standard solutions. The package includes a 400 NTU formazine standard solution, which needs to be diluted to appropriate calibration points (e.g., 0 NTU, 20 NTU, 100 NTU, 200 NTU) using distilled water.
- Clean the sample cells thoroughly with distilled water and wipe dry with a lint-free cloth.
- Fill a sample cell with the 0 NTU (distilled water) standard. Insert it into the measuring cell and cover with the shade cover.
- Press the 'CAL' button. Follow the on-screen prompts to perform zero calibration.
- Repeat the process for other standard solutions as required by the device's calibration procedure (refer to the detailed manual for specific steps for multi-point calibration).
5.3 Measurement Procedure
- Ensure the device is calibrated.
- Clean a sample cell and fill it with the sample to be measured. Avoid air bubbles and fingerprints on the cell.
- Insert the sample cell into the measuring cell compartment.
- Place the shade cover over the sample cell to block ambient light.
- Press the 'Enter' button to initiate a measurement. The turbidity reading will be displayed on the LCD screen.
- Record the measurement.
6. Working Principle
The BriSunshine Lab Turbidity Meter operates on the principle of measuring 90° scattered light. An infrared light source emits light through the sample cell. Insoluble suspended matter in the sample scatters this light. A detector positioned at a 90-degree angle to the incident light path measures the intensity of the scattered light. The intensity of the scattered light is directly proportional to the turbidity of the sample. The device also incorporates forward transmitted and forward scattering signal detection for comprehensive analysis.

7. Applications
This turbidimeter is suitable for a wide range of applications where quantitative determination of suspended matter in liquids is required. Common applications include:
- Water quality testing (drinking water, swimming pool water)
- Wastewater treatment monitoring
- Pharmaceutical industry quality control
- Wine and beverage industry analysis
- Environmental monitoring
- Industrial process control (e.g., power plants, pure water plants)

9. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your turbidimeter:
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the exterior of the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Sample Cells: Always clean sample cells immediately after use with distilled water. Wipe them dry with a lint-free cloth to prevent scratches or residue that could affect readings.
- Storage: Store the turbidimeter in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the shade cover is in place when not in use.
- Battery Replacement: If using battery power, replace all 4 AA batteries when the low battery indicator appears or if the device fails to power on. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
10. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your turbidimeter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Device does not power on:
- Check if the power adapter is securely connected and the outlet is functional.
- If using batteries, ensure they are correctly inserted with proper polarity and are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
- Inaccurate or inconsistent readings:
- Recalibrate the device using fresh standard solutions.
- Ensure sample cells are clean, free of scratches, and wiped dry with a lint-free cloth.
- Verify that the shade cover is properly in place during measurement to block ambient light.
- Check for air bubbles in the sample. Gently tap the sample cell to dislodge bubbles.
- Ensure the sample is within the specified temperature range for accurate measurement.
- Display is dim or unreadable:
- Press the 'Light' button to activate the backlight.
- Check battery levels if operating on DC power.
If the problem persists after attempting these troubleshooting steps, please contact customer support.
