Setup

1. Unboxing and Initial Inspection

2. Battery Installation and Charging

Insert the supplied NP-FZ100 battery into the camera's battery compartment. Ensure it clicks into place. For initial use, fully charge the battery using the BC-QZ1 charger and power cord. The charging indicator on the charger will illuminate during charging and turn off when complete.

3. Memory Card Installation

The camera features dual card slots compatible with both CFexpress Type A and SDXC/SDHC memory cards. Open the memory card slot cover and insert the card(s) with the correct orientation until they click into place. Close the cover securely.

4. Attaching a Lens

Align the white index mark on the lens with the white index mark on the camera body (E-mount). Rotate the lens clockwise until it locks into place. To remove, press the lens release button and rotate counter-clockwise.

5. Initial Power On and Basic Settings

Turn the camera on using the power switch. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the language, date, time, and time zone. Ensure these settings are accurate for proper file management.

Operating the Camera

1. Controls and Buttons Overview

2. LCD Monitor and Viewfinder

The camera features a 3-inch flip-out, vari-angle LCD monitor with touch menu and controls. This allows for flexible shooting angles and intuitive navigation. The 9.44M dot 0.64-inch QXGA OLED eye-level viewfinder provides a clear and detailed view for precise framing.

3. Photography Modes

Select your desired shooting mode using the mode dial. Common modes include:

• Shutter Priority (S): User sets shutter speed, camera sets aperture.

4. Video Recording

The a7S III supports advanced video recording, including 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 up to 120p and 16-bit RAW movie output up to 4K 60p via HDMI Type-A connector. Effective internal heat dissipation allows for extended recording times, such as 1-hour 4K 60p recording. Utilize Picture Profiles including 10-bit 4:2:2 HLG and S-Log 2 & 3 for professional color grading workflows.

5. Autofocus and Image Stabilization

The camera features a fast hybrid autofocus system with 759 phase detection AF points, ensuring quick and accurate focusing. The 5-axis optical image stabilization system (SteadyShot INSIDE) is integrated into the camera body, providing up to 5.5 stops of shake compensation for sharper images and smoother video, even when shooting handheld.
