6. Operating Modes

The SURAIELEC Watt Meter features 7 display modes, which can be cycled through by pressing the FVNC (Function) button. Each mode provides different energy consumption data:

  1. Mode 1: Time / Watt / Cost
Displays the current time, instantaneous power consumption in Watts (W), and the accumulated cost.
  2. Mode 2: Time / Electricity Consumption (kWh) / Day
Shows the accumulated time, total electricity consumed in Kilowatt-hours (kWh), and the number of days the device has been monitoring.
  3. Mode 3: Time / Volt / Frequency
Displays the current time, voltage (V), and frequency (Hz) of the power supply.
  4. Mode 4: Time / Amp / Power Factor
Shows the current time, current (A), and power factor.
  5. Mode 5: Time / Minimum Watt
Displays the current time and the minimum power consumption (W) recorded since the last reset.
  6. Mode 6: Time / Maximum Watt
Displays the current time and the maximum power consumption (W) recorded since the last reset.
  7. Mode 7: Time / Price Display
Shows the current time and the set electricity price per kWh.

The display also features an Overload Display (3680W) which indicates if the connected load exceeds the safe operating limit.

7. Setting Electricity Rates for Cost Calculation

To accurately calculate electricity costs, you need to set your local electricity rate per Kilowatt-hour (kWh).

  1. Press the FVNC button until you reach Mode 7 (Time / Price Display).
  2. Press and hold the COST button for a few seconds until the first digit of the price starts blinking.
  3. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to adjust the blinking digit.
  4. Press the FVNC button to move to the next digit.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all digits of your electricity rate are set. The display format is typically XX.XX, representing cents per kWh. For example, if your rate is 12.5 cents/kWh, you would set it to 12.50.
  6. Once all digits are set, press the COST button again to exit the setting mode.

9. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Display is blank or not lighting up.No power, dead batteries, or device malfunction.Ensure the meter is securely plugged into a live outlet. Check and replace the internal batteries if necessary. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
Readings appear inaccurate.Device not properly connected, or appliance drawing very low power.Ensure the appliance is fully plugged into the meter. For very low power devices (e.g., less than 0.5W), some meters may not register accurately.
Data (kWh, cost) is not accumulating.Appliance is off or drawing zero power. The meter only accumulates data when power is actively being drawn. Ensure the appliance is operating.
Cannot set electricity rate.Incorrect button sequence.Refer to Section 7 for detailed instructions on setting the electricity rate. Ensure you are in Mode 7 before attempting to set the cost.
Overload warning displayed.Connected appliance exceeds the meter's maximum wattage.Immediately unplug the appliance. Do not use the meter with appliances that exceed its 1950W (for 110-130V) limit.
Need to reset all data.User preference.Locate the small reset button (often recessed) on the device. Use a paperclip or similar pointed object to press and hold the reset button until the display clears. This will reset all accumulated data and settings.
