5. Setup and Installation
This dimmer switch is designed for through-cord installation. Follow these steps carefully:
- Disconnect Power: Ensure the lamp or appliance cord is unplugged from the wall outlet before beginning installation.
- Prepare the Cord: Determine the desired location for the dimmer switch on the lamp cord. Carefully cut the cord at this point. Separate the two wires of the cord for about 1-2 inches on both cut ends.
- Strip Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of all four wires (two from each cut end of the cord).
- Open the Dimmer Casing: Gently open the dimmer switch casing. It typically snaps open or has small screws. Refer to Figure 5.1 for internal view.

Figure 5.1: Top view of the open dimmer switch, showing the "IN" and "OUT" sides, and the internal terminals for wiring.
- Connect Wires:
- Identify the "IN" side of the dimmer (where power comes from the wall outlet) and the "OUT" side (where power goes to the lamp).
- Connect one wire from the "IN" side of the cut cord to the "Lin" terminal inside the dimmer.
- Connect the other wire from the "IN" side of the cut cord to the "Lout" terminal inside the dimmer.
- Connect one wire from the "OUT" side of the cut cord to the remaining "Lin" terminal.
- Connect the other wire from the "OUT" side of the cut cord to the remaining "Lout" terminal.
Note: Ensure that the correct wires are connected to the corresponding terminals (e.g., ribbed wire to one side, smooth wire to the other, consistently). Some cords have one ribbed wire and one smooth wire for polarity. Maintain this polarity if applicable.

Figure 5.2: Close-up view of the internal wiring terminals (Lin and Lout) within the dimmer switch, showing where the stripped wires should be connected.
- Secure Wires: Tighten the screw terminals to secure the wires. Gently tug on each wire to ensure it is firmly connected and will not pull out.
- Close Casing: Carefully close the dimmer switch casing, ensuring no wires are pinched and the casing snaps securely shut.
- Test: Plug the lamp or appliance cord back into the wall outlet and test the dimmer switch.
6. Operating Instructions
Operating the ezonpinzv Through-Cord Slide Full-Dimmer Switch is straightforward:
- Turning On/Off: Slide the control lever fully to the "ON" or "OFF" position.
- Dimming: Once the light is on, slide the control lever up or down to adjust the brightness level. Sliding it up typically increases brightness, and sliding it down decreases brightness.
- Indicator Light: The red indicator light will illuminate when the switch is in operation.
7. Maintenance
The ezonpinzv Through-Cord Slide Full-Dimmer Switch requires minimal maintenance:
- Cleaning: Disconnect power before cleaning. Wipe the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the cord and the switch for any signs of damage, fraying, or loose connections. If any damage is found, discontinue use and replace the switch.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on. | No power to the outlet; Bulb is burnt out; Loose wiring connection; Non-dimmable bulb. | Check circuit breaker/fuse; Replace bulb; Re-check wiring connections (ensure power is off first); Ensure bulb is dimmable. |
| Light flickers or hums. | Incompatible bulb (non-dimmable or poor quality dimmable); Overloaded circuit; Loose connection. | Replace with a high-quality dimmable LED/CFL or incandescent bulb; Ensure total wattage does not exceed dimmer rating; Check wiring connections. |
| Dimmer does not dim properly. | Non-dimmable bulb; Bulb not compatible with full-range dimming; Dimmer damaged. | Ensure bulb is specifically designed for dimming; Try a different dimmable bulb; If problem persists, the dimmer may need replacement. |
| Red indicator light is off. | No power to the switch; Switch is in "OFF" position; Faulty indicator light. | Check power supply; Slide switch to "ON" position; If switch functions but light is off, it may be a minor cosmetic issue. |
