It is built to IP57 dust and waterproof standards, allowing submersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Should the radio be dropped in water, it floats and is easily located by a flashing red LED light and LCD/button backlight.

Setup

Battery Installation

The IC-M37E operates with the supplied BP-296 Lithium-Ion battery pack. Alternatively, the included additional battery case can be used with compatible batteries (not supplied) for backup power. Ensure the battery pack or case is correctly aligned and securely latched into the radio's compartment to maintain its waterproof integrity.

Charging the Battery

To charge the BP-296 Lithium-Ion battery, place the radio into the supplied drop-in charger. Connect the charger to the mains charger adapter or a 12V onboard power source via a USB adapter socket. The charging indicator on the charger will illuminate, typically red during charging and green when fully charged. A small clip on the charger helps secure the radio in moving environments.

Operating Instructions

Power On/Off

To turn the radio on, press and hold the POWER button (marked with a circle and vertical line) until the display illuminates. To turn off, press and hold the same button until the display goes blank.

Channel Selection

Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to navigate through available channels. The selected channel number will be displayed prominently on the LCD screen.

Volume Adjustment

Rotate the VOL knob located on the top of the radio to adjust the audio output level. For squelch adjustment, refer to the VOL/SQL MONI button functionality in the full manual.

Channel 16 / Call Channel Access

Press the dedicated 16/C button for instant access to Channel 16 (the international distress and calling channel) or your pre-programmed call channel.

Dual/Tri-Watch Function

The Dual/Tri-Watch function allows you to monitor Channel 16 (and another channel for Tri-Watch) while operating on a selected working channel. This ensures you don't miss important calls. Refer to the full manual for activation and configuration details.

Channel History Function

The IC-M37E automatically stores the last five channels you have used. This Channel History function allows for quick and easy recall of frequently used channels. Consult the full manual for instructions on accessing and utilizing this feature.

AquaQuake™ Draining Function

If the radio's speaker has been exposed to water, activate the AquaQuake™ draining function to remove water from the speaker grille. Maintenance

Cleaning

Clean the radio's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the casing or seals. For saltwater exposure, rinse the radio thoroughly with fresh water and dry it completely.

Waterproofing

To maintain the radio's IP57 dust and waterproof rating, ensure that the battery pack or battery case is securely attached and all covers (e.g., accessory jack cover) are properly sealed. Regularly inspect seals for any signs of wear or damage. If the radio is dropped in water, its floating design and flashing red LED light aid in retrieval.

Troubleshooting

No Power

• Check the battery charge level. Recharge the battery if it is low.
• Ensure the battery pack or battery case is correctly installed and securely latched.
• Verify that the power button is pressed and held sufficiently long to turn the unit on.

Poor Audio Quality

• If the speaker has been exposed to water, activate the AquaQuake™ draining function.
• Adjust the volume knob to an appropriate level.
• Check the squelch setting; too high a squelch level can block weak signals.
• Ensure the microphone and speaker grilles are clear of debris.

Cannot Transmit or Receive

• Verify that the correct channel is selected.
• Ensure the antenna is securely attached to the radio.
• Check for any obstructions or sources of interference in your immediate vicinity.
• Confirm that the radio is not in a special mode (e.g., scan, dual/tri-watch) that might prevent normal operation.
