1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Dahua 4-channel 1080P CCTV Surveillance System, featuring the DH-XVR1A04 DVR and four 2MP outdoor cameras. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product to ensure proper setup and optimal performance. Keep this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Information
To prevent injury to yourself or others, or damage to your device, read all safety information before using the device.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure all power connections are secure and meet the specified voltage requirements. Do not overload power outlets. Disconnect power before performing any maintenance.
- Environmental Conditions: Operate the device within the specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid direct exposure to water, excessive dust, or extreme temperatures.
- Handling: Handle the DVR and cameras with care. Avoid dropping or subjecting them to strong impacts. Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device, as this will void the warranty.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation for the DVR to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all items listed below are included in your package. If any items are missing or damaged, contact your retailer.

Note: This package does not include a hard disk drive (HDD) for recording or any additional accessories like coaxial cables or power supplies for cameras. These must be purchased separately.

4. Setup
4.1. Installing the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
The DVR requires a 3.5-inch SATA HDD (up to 6TB) for video recording. The HDD is not included and must be installed before use.
- Unscrew and remove the top cover of the DVR.
- Connect the SATA data cable and power cable from the DVR to the HDD.
- Secure the HDD to the DVR chassis using the provided screws.
- Replace the top cover and secure it with screws.
4.2. Connecting the DVR
- Monitor Connection: Connect a monitor to the DVR's HDMI or VGA port.
- Mouse Connection: Connect the USB mouse to a USB port on the DVR.
- Network Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from the DVR's LAN port to your router or network switch for remote access.
- Power Connection: Connect the DVR's power adapter to the DVR and then to a power outlet.
4.3. Connecting Cameras
Connect each 2MP outdoor camera to the corresponding BNC input ports on the rear of the DVR using coaxial cables. Ensure each camera also has its own power supply connected (not included).
4.4. Initial Configuration
Upon first power-up, the DVR will guide you through an initial setup wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up basic parameters such as language, date/time, network settings, and password. If an HDD is installed, the system will prompt you to format it.
5. Operating the System
5.1. Live View
After initial setup, the DVR will display the live view from all connected cameras on the monitor. You can switch between single-camera view and multi-camera grid view using the on-screen controls or mouse.
5.2. Recording
The DVR supports various recording modes:
- Manual Recording: Start/stop recording manually.
- Scheduled Recording: Set specific times for continuous recording.
- Motion Detection Recording: Recording starts automatically when motion is detected in the camera's view.
Access recording settings through the DVR's main menu.
5.3. Playback
To review recorded footage:
- From the main menu, select 'Playback'.
- Choose the desired date and time.
- Select the camera channel(s) you wish to view.
- Use the playback controls (play, pause, fast forward, rewind) to navigate through the footage.
5.4. Remote Access (Mobile/PC Apps)
Access your surveillance system remotely using Dahua's dedicated applications:
- For iOS devices: Download iDMSS from the App Store.
- For Android devices: Download gDMSS from the Google Play Store.
- For Windows PC: Use SmartPSS software.
Follow the in-app instructions to add your DVR using its serial number or IP address for remote viewing and control.

5.5. Advanced Features
- HDCVI/AHD/TVI/CVBS/IP Auto-detect: The DH-XVR1A04 DVR automatically recognizes the signal type of connected front-end cameras without manual configuration, simplifying setup.
- Long Distance Transmission: The HDCVI system supports long-distance video transmission over coaxial cable and UTP. It can transmit 1080P video up to 800m and 720P video up to 1200m.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
Regularly clean the camera lenses and DVR casing with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the DVR's ventilation openings are free from dust and debris.
6.2. Firmware Updates
Periodically check the Dahua official website for firmware updates. Keeping your DVR's firmware updated ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
6.3. Data Backup
Regularly back up important recorded footage to an external storage device (e.g., USB drive) to prevent data loss.
7. Troubleshooting

- No Video Display:
- Check power connections for DVR and cameras.
- Verify BNC cable connections between cameras and DVR.
- Ensure monitor is correctly connected and set to the correct input source.
- No Recording:

- Ensure the HDD is not full.
- Remote Access Failure:
- Verify the DVR is connected to the internet.
- Check network settings on the DVR and your router.
