4. Setup

4.1. Unpacking and Initial Assembly

Your MotoTec Trike comes mostly pre-assembled. Carefully remove all packaging materials. You will need basic tools (not included) such as Allen wrenches and crescent wrenches for final assembly steps. Follow the included quick-start guide for specific assembly instructions for the handlebars, seat, and baskets.

4.2. Initial Battery Charging

Before first use, fully charge the trike's 48V 10Ah Lithium-Ion battery. The charger is included. Charging typically takes 4-8 hours. The battery can be charged while installed on the trike or removed for charging. Ensure the charger is connected to a standard wall outlet and the trike's charging port.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Starting the Trike

  1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the 'ON' position.
  2. Ensure the main battery connection is secure (refer to Troubleshooting if the trike does not power on).
  3. The display on the handlebar will illuminate, indicating power is on.

5.2. Speed Control

The trike offers three selectable forward speeds: 5 mph, 10 mph, and 17 mph. There are also matching reverse speeds: 2 mph, 3 mph, and 6 mph. A slow store speed mode is available at 1.5 mph forward and 1 mph reverse. Use the speed selector switch on the handlebar to choose your desired speed setting.

5.3. Braking

The trike is equipped with dual drum brakes on the rear wheels. Apply the brake levers on the handlebars to slow down or stop. A parking brake feature is also available to secure the trike when stationary, especially on inclines.

5.4. Folding and Unfolding

The trike features an easy folding mechanism for portability. Consult the quick-start guide or product diagrams for specific steps on how to safely fold and unfold the trike. Ensure all locking mechanisms are engaged when unfolded for operation and disengaged when folding.

5.5. Handlebar Adjustment

The handlebar height is adjustable to accommodate different rider heights. Loosen the quick-release clamp on the handlebar stem, adjust to the desired height, and securely tighten the clamp before riding.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Battery Care

  • Charge the battery regularly, even if not in use, to prolong its lifespan.
  • Avoid completely draining the battery before recharging.
  • Store the trike and battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6.2. Tire Maintenance

The trike uses 10-inch pneumatic tires. Regularly check tire pressure and inflate to the recommended PSI (usually found on the tire sidewall) to ensure optimal performance and prevent flats.

6.3. General Cleaning

Clean the trike with a damp cloth. Avoid using high-pressure water jets directly on electrical components. Keep the trike free of dirt and debris, especially around moving parts and the motor area.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. Trike Does Not Power On

Problem: The trike does not power on after turning the key, even if the battery is charged.

Solution: This is often due to a disconnected or loose main battery cable. Locate the battery compartment, typically under the seat. There is a main power cable that needs to be securely plugged into the battery. Ensure it is firmly seated. Sometimes, this cable is tucked away for shipping and needs to be fully connected before first use.

7.2. Reduced Range or Power

Problem: The trike's range or power seems reduced.

Solution: Ensure the battery is fully charged. Check tire pressure; under-inflated tires can significantly reduce efficiency. Consider rider weight and terrain, as these factors impact range. If issues persist, contact customer support.

7.3. Braking Ineffectiveness

Problem: Brakes feel less effective or require excessive force.

Solution: Inspect the brake cables for any looseness or damage. The drum brakes may require adjustment. It is recommended to have brake adjustments performed by a qualified technician if you are unsure.
