Safety Information

WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. Improper installation can lead to serious injury or death. Always turn off power at the circuit breaker before working with electrical wiring. If you are unsure about any part of these instructions, consult a qualified electrician.

  • Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before installation.
  • This device is rated for 15Amp, 120/277Volt circuits. Do not exceed these ratings.
  • Compatible with LED, Incandescent, CFL, Halogen, and Fluorescent lighting.
  • Two 3-Way Illuminated light switches must be used together for 3-way applications.
  • This 3-way light switch cannot work with other switch types (e.g., single pole switch, dimmer switch) in a 3-way circuit.
  • Use with standard wall plates (sold separately).

Product Features

  • Integrated Night Light: Combines a wall switch and nightlight, freeing up outlets.
  • Smart Illumination: Built-in dusk-to-dawn sensor automatically turns on the LED night light when ambient lighting is insufficient and the load is OFF.
  • Dual LED Orientation: LEDs are present on both the top and bottom of the rocker, illuminating downwards or upwards depending on the switch position.
  • Easy Installation: Does not require a neutral wire for the night light function, simplifying replacement of standard switches.
  • Standard 3-Way Functionality: Operates as a standard 3-way electrical wall light switch.
  • Durable Construction: Made from high-quality, impact-resistant polycarbonate thermoplastic and solid steel for long service life.

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps carefully for safe and correct installation. Remember to turn off power at the circuit breaker before beginning.

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker controlling the light switch you intend to replace and turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
  2. Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and unscrew the old switch from the electrical box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch, noting their connections (e.g., common, traveler wires, ground). It is recommended to label each wire.
  3. Identify Wires:
    • Common Wire: This is typically the black wire that brings power to the switch or sends power to the light fixture. It connects to the common terminal (often silver or black screw) on the new switch.
    • Traveler Wires: For 3-way switches, there will be two traveler wires (often bronze colored screws). These connect the two 3-way switches.
    • Ground Wire: This is typically a bare copper or green insulated wire. It connects to the green grounding screw on the new switch.
  4. Connect New Switch: Connect the wires to the new SOZULAMP 3-Way Light Switch according to the diagram below. The switch supports both back insert and side terminal wiring.

    • Connect the Common wire to the common terminal (silver or black screw).
    • Connect the two Traveler wires to the traveler terminals (bronze colored screws).
    • Connect the Ground wire to the green grounding screw.
  5. Secure Switch: Gently push the wired switch into the electrical box. Secure it with the provided screws.
  6. Install Wall Plate: Attach a standard wall plate (not included) over the switch.
  7. Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker.
  8. Test Functionality: Test both the light switch and the night light function. The night light should illuminate automatically in dark conditions.

Operating Instructions

Your SOZULAMP Illuminated 3-Way Light Switch operates as a standard paddle switch for controlling your lighting fixture, with an added automatic night light feature.

  • Light Control: Press the top of the paddle to turn the connected light fixture ON, and the bottom to turn it OFF. In a 3-way setup, either switch can control the light.
  • Night Light Function: The integrated LED night light operates independently of the main light switch. It features a built-in dusk-to-dawn sensor.
    • The night light will automatically turn ON when the ambient light becomes insufficient (e.g., at dusk or in a dark room) and the main light fixture is OFF.
    • It will automatically turn OFF when sufficient ambient light is detected (e.g., at dawn) or when the main light fixture is turned ON.
    • The LED is located on the rocker itself, meaning the direction of the night light illumination (up or down) will depend on the physical position of the switch paddle.

Maintenance

The SOZULAMP Illuminated 3-Way Light Switch requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: To clean the switch and wall plate, wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure power is off at the circuit breaker before cleaning.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the switch for any signs of damage or loose connections. If any issues are found, turn off power at the circuit breaker and consult a qualified electrician.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Light fixture does not turn ON/OFF.
  • No power to the switch.
  • Incorrect wiring.
  • Loose wire connections.
  • Burnt-out light bulb.
  • Check the circuit breaker and ensure it is ON.
  • Turn off power and re-check wiring against the diagram. Ensure all connections are secure.
  • Replace the light bulb.
Night light does not turn ON.
  • Room is too bright (dusk-to-dawn sensor).
  • Main light fixture is ON.
  • Sensor is obstructed.
  • Faulty switch.
  • Ensure the room is dark enough for the sensor to activate.
  • Turn off the main light fixture.
  • Ensure nothing is blocking the small light sensor on the switch face.
  • If issues persist, contact customer support.
Night light is always ON/OFF.
  • Sensor malfunction.
  • Constant ambient light/darkness.
  • Verify ambient light conditions.
  • If the issue persists under appropriate light conditions, the sensor may be faulty. Contact customer support.
Switch feels loose or clicks improperly.
  • Internal mechanism wear.
  • This may indicate the end of the product's lifespan. Consider replacement.
