Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of your Mountfield AZURO 4M Sand Filter System. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use, and retain it for future reference.
Important Safety Information
- Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or service.
- Ensure the filter pump is installed below the water surface as it is not self-suctioning.
- Do not operate the system if any part is damaged or malfunctioning.
- Keep children away from the filter system during operation.
- Operating pressure must not exceed 0.6 bar.
- Maximum water temperature for operation is 35°C.
Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:
- AZURO 4M Sand Filter System unit (filter container, pump, 6-way valve, pressure gauge, timer)
- 2 x 3 meter pool hoses (32mm or 38mm compatible)
- Required connectors and clamps
- Instruction Manual (this document)

Figure 1: Overview of included components.
Setup and Installation
- Positioning the Filter System: Place the sand filter system on a stable, level surface. Ensure it is installed below the water surface level of your pool, as the pump is not self-suctioning.
- Adding Filter Sand: Open the filter tank and carefully add 14 kg of quartz sand (grain size 0.6 - 1.2 mm). Ensure the central pipe is covered to prevent sand from entering it.
- Connecting Hoses: Connect the two included 3-meter pool hoses to the filter system and your pool. The system is compatible with 32mm or 38mm hoses. Secure all connections with clamps to prevent leaks.
- Electrical Connection: Connect the power cord to a grounded 230V/50Hz electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by a Residual Current Device (RCD).

Operating Instructions
The AZURO 4M Sand Filter System features a 6-way valve, a pressure gauge, and a built-in timer for automated operation.
6-Way Valve Functions:
- Filter: Normal filtration mode. Water flows through the sand bed, removing impurities.
- Backwash: Cleans the filter sand by reversing water flow. Perform when pressure gauge indicates high pressure.
- Rinse: Used after backwashing to flush dirty water from the valve and settle the sand.
- Waste: Bypasses the filter to drain water directly from the pool (e.g., for vacuuming to waste).
- Recirculate: Circulates water without filtering (e.g., for chemical distribution).
- Closed: Shuts off all flow to the filter. Use for maintenance.
Important: Always turn off the pump before changing the 6-way valve position to prevent damage.
Pressure Gauge:
The integrated pressure gauge indicates the internal pressure of the filter system. Monitor this gauge regularly. A rising pressure indicates that the filter sand is becoming dirty and requires backwashing.

Built-in Timer:
The pump includes a built-in timer for automatic operation. Set the desired operating times by rotating the timer dial. Refer to the timer's specific markings for setting intervals.

Maintenance
- Backwashing: When the pressure gauge reads in the yellow or red zone, or when water flow decreases, perform a backwash cycle. Turn off the pump, set the 6-way valve to "Backwash", turn on the pump, and run until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear.
- Rinsing: After backwashing, turn off the pump, set the 6-way valve to "Rinse", turn on the pump for 30-60 seconds, then turn off.
- Regular Cleaning: Periodically inspect and clean the pump's pre-filter basket (if applicable) and ensure all connections are tight.
- Sand Replacement: Filter sand typically needs to be replaced every 3-5 years, depending on usage and water quality.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low water flow / Poor filtration | Clogged filter sand; Clogged pump basket; Air leak in system. | Perform backwash and rinse; Clean pump basket; Check all hose connections for tightness. |
| Pump not starting | No power; Timer setting incorrect; Motor issue. | Check power supply and RCD; Verify timer settings; Consult a qualified technician. |
| Water leaking from connections | Loose connections; Damaged O-rings/gaskets. | Tighten hose clamps; Inspect and replace O-rings/gaskets as needed. |
