2. Safety Information

Always adhere to general power tool safety warnings and instructions to prevent electric shock, fire, and serious injury. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Work Area Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: This tool is cordless and powered by an 18V Li-ion LXT battery. Ensure batteries are charged using only the specified charger for LXT batteries. Do not use non-genuine or incompatible batteries and chargers, as this will invalidate the Makita guarantee and may cause damage or injury.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry that can get caught in moving parts.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. Disconnect the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Battery Use and Care: Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. Do not use battery packs with any other power tools. Store idle battery packs out of reach of children and do not allow other persons unfamiliar with the battery pack or these instructions to operate the battery pack.

  • To remove a socket: Pull the socket off the square drive.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off and Variable Speed Control

The tool is activated by the trigger switch. The speed is variable and controlled by the amount of trigger depression.

  • To start the tool: Pull the trigger switch. The tool speed increases with increased pressure on the trigger.
  • To stop the tool: Release the trigger switch. The electric brake will engage, stopping rotation quickly.
  • Full Speed Mode: A dedicated button allows switching to full speed mode, reducing trigger travel for faster full speed attainment.

4.2 Electronic 4-Stage Impact Power Selection

The DTW300Z offers four electronic impact power settings, allowing you to match the power to the application. These settings are typically indicated by LED lights on the control panel.

4.3 Forward and Reverse Rotation

The direction of rotation is changed by the forward/reverse lever located above the trigger.

  • For tightening (forward rotation): Push the lever to the left.
  • For loosening (reverse rotation): Push the lever to the right.
  • Ensure the lever is fully engaged in either direction before operating the tool.

4.4 Auto-Stop System

The auto-stop system is available in both forward and reverse rotation modes. This feature helps prevent over-tightening or over-loosening by automatically stopping the tool once the bolt or nut is sufficiently tightened or loosened.

4.5 LED Job Light

The integrated LED job light illuminates the work area for improved visibility, especially in dimly lit conditions. The light activates when the trigger is pulled and may remain on for a short period after the trigger is released.
