6.2 Adjusting Speed

The variable speed control knob allows you to select the optimal sanding speed for different materials and applications.

  • Rotate the speed adjustable knob (refer to Figure 1) to increase or decrease the belt speed.
  • Lower speeds are suitable for fine finishing or heat-sensitive materials.
  • Higher speeds are ideal for rapid material removal.

6.3 Sanding Techniques

  • Handheld Operation: Hold the sander firmly with both hands. Start the sander before contacting the workpiece. Apply even, moderate pressure and move the sander smoothly along the surface, following the grain of the wood. Avoid tilting the sander or applying excessive pressure, which can cause uneven sanding or damage to the belt.
  • Stationary Operation (Bench Mounted): With the sander securely mounted, bring the workpiece to the moving sanding belt. Maintain control of the workpiece and apply even pressure. This method is useful for shaping small pieces or sharpening tools.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your tool.

  • Cleaning: After each use, unplug the sander and clean any dust or debris from the tool, especially around the ventilation openings and the belt area. Use a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Dust Bag/System: Empty the dust collection bag regularly. If using a vacuum system, ensure the filters are clean and the hose is free of blockages.
  • Belt Tracking Adjustment: Periodically check the belt tracking. If the belt consistently drifts to one side, adjust the belt tracking knob (usually located near the front roller) until the belt runs centrally on the rollers. This prevents premature belt wear and damage to the sander.
  • Power Cord: Inspect the power cord for any damage (cuts, fraying). If damaged, have it replaced by a qualified technician.
  • Storage: Store the sander in a clean, dry place, out of reach of children.
