4. Setup

  1. Prepare Work Area: Ensure your work area is well-ventilated, clean, and free of obstructions. Lay down drop cloths or protective coverings.
  2. Connect Air Supply: Attach the air hose to the spray gun's air inlet (refer to Figure 3.4). Ensure a secure, airtight connection. The recommended air pressure for operation is 43 PSI.
  3. Prepare Paint: Mix your paint according to the manufacturer's instructions. Strain the paint to remove any particles that could clog the nozzle.
  4. Fill Gravity Cup: Pour the prepared paint into the 125CC gravity feed cup. Securely attach the cup to the top of the spray gun.
  5. Initial Adjustments:
    • Fluid Control: Turn the fluid control knob (Figure 3.2, rear knob) clockwise to decrease fluid flow or counter-clockwise to increase it. Start with a moderate setting.
    • Fan Pattern: Turn the fan pattern adjustment knob (Figure 3.2, side knob) to adjust the spray pattern from a round spot to a wide fan.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Test Spray: Before spraying your workpiece, perform a test spray on a piece of scrap material to check the pattern and fluid output. Adjust the fluid and fan pattern controls as needed for your desired finish.
  2. Maintain Distance: Hold the spray gun perpendicular to the surface, typically 6-8 inches away, and maintain a consistent distance throughout the stroke.
  3. Even Strokes: Apply paint using smooth, even strokes, overlapping each pass by approximately 50%. Release the trigger at the end of each stroke.
  4. Low Pressure Advantage: The HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) design, with its low nozzle air pressure, ensures high atomization and a more even coating of paint.
  5. Gravity Feed Benefits: The gravity feed design minimizes material waste and allows for easy cleanup.

6. Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life and performance of your spray gun.

  1. Empty Paint Cup: After each use, empty any remaining paint from the gravity feed cup.
  2. Flush with Solvent: Pour a small amount of appropriate cleaning solvent (e.g., paint thinner for oil-based paints, water for water-based paints) into the cup. Spray the solvent through the gun until it runs clear.
  3. Disassemble and Clean:
    • Remove the air cap and nozzle (refer to Figure 3.3).
    • Use the provided cleaning brush (Figure 3.5) and solvent to thoroughly clean the air cap, nozzle, and fluid needle.
    • Clean the inside of the paint cup and the gun body where paint has flowed. The polished aluminum housing facilitates easy cleanup.
  4. Reassemble: Ensure all parts are dry before reassembling the spray gun. Do not overtighten components.
  5. Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of spray gun lubricant to the fluid needle packing and air valve stem.
  6. Storage: Store the clean and dry spray gun in a safe, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

Refer to this section for common issues and their potential solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Uneven spray patternClogged air cap or nozzle; incorrect air pressure; paint too thick.Clean air cap and nozzle; adjust air pressure to 43 PSI; thin paint as per manufacturer's instructions.
No paint flowClogged nozzle or fluid passage; fluid control knob closed; empty paint cup.Clean nozzle and fluid passages; open fluid control knob; refill paint cup.
Paint spittingLoose air cap; damaged fluid needle; low paint level; air leak.Tighten air cap; inspect and replace fluid needle if damaged; ensure sufficient paint; check all connections for leaks.
Excessive oversprayToo much air pressure; gun held too far from surface; fluid control too high.Reduce air pressure; hold gun closer to surface; reduce fluid flow.
