2. Important Safety Information
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, observe the following:
- Read all instructions before installing or servicing this fan.
- Use this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. If you have questions, contact the manufacturer.
- Before servicing or cleaning, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.
- Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction codes and standards.
- Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel-burning equipment to prevent back-drafting. 5. Installation
The Tech Drive TD-BF-10 offers flexible installation options for both new and existing constructions. For existing constructions, installation can be completed entirely from the room-ceiling side, eliminating the need for attic access.
General Installation Steps:
- Prepare Ceiling Opening: Create a ceiling opening of approximately 9.25 inches by 8.9 inches. Ensure the opening is large enough for the fan housing.
- Remove Fan Assembly: Disconnect the fan motor from the housing by unplugging it and removing any securing screws. This allows for easier handling of the housing during installation.
- Wiring: Connect the fan's electrical wires (white to house white, black to house black, green to ground) to your household wiring. Ensure all connections are secure with wire nuts.
- Install Duct: Connect a 4-inch circular duct to the fan housing's duct connector. Secure it using a duct clamp or tape (not included) to ensure an airtight seal.
- Mount Fan Housing: Secure the fan housing to the ceiling joists. For new construction, attach directly to joists. For existing construction without attic access, use the provided mounting brackets to secure the housing from below the ceiling.
- Reattach Fan Assembly: Once the housing is securely mounted and wired, reinsert the fan motor assembly into the housing and plug it in.
- Install Grille: Attach the white grille to the fan housing using the spring clips. Ensure it sits flush against the ceiling.
