1. Introduction

LED Indicators

5. Installation and Setup

5.1 Mounting the Access Point

  1. Select Location: Identify a suitable mounting location, considering line of sight for wireless signals and proximity to a PoE-enabled network switch.
  2. Attach Mounting Bracket: Secure the mounting bracket to the pole using the provided hose clamps or to a wall using screws and anchors. Ensure the bracket is firmly attached.
  3. Attach MR76 to Bracket: Align the MR76 unit with the mounting bracket and slide it into place until it clicks securely.

5.2 Connecting External Antennas

The MR76 requires external antennas for Wi-Fi operation. Ensure you use compatible N-type antennas.

  1. Identify Antenna Ports: Locate the N-type connectors on the MR76.
  2. Attach Antennas: Carefully screw the external antennas onto the connectors. Hand-tighten only; do not overtighten.
  3. Position Antennas: Adjust the antenna orientation for optimal coverage based on your deployment plan.

5.3 Powering the Device

The MR76 is powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE).

  1. Connect Ethernet Cable: Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE-enabled switch or PoE injector to the Ethernet port on the MR76.
  2. Verify Power: Once connected, the LED indicator on the MR76 should illuminate, indicating power.

5.4 Network Connection

Ensure the Ethernet cable from the MR76 is connected to a network switch that has internet access and is configured for your Meraki network.

6. Operating and Configuration

The Cisco Meraki MR76 is managed entirely through the Meraki cloud dashboard. No local configuration is required.

  1. Access Meraki Dashboard: Open a web browser and navigate to dashboard.meraki.com. Log in with your Meraki account credentials.
  2. Add Device: If this is a new device, add it to your network in the dashboard using its serial number.
  3. Configure Network Settings: Within the dashboard, configure your wireless SSIDs, security protocols (WPA2, WPA3), VLANs, and other network-specific settings.
  4. Monitor Performance: Use the dashboard to monitor the access point's status, client connectivity, and overall network performance.
  5. Bluetooth Radios: The integrated Bluetooth radios can be configured and managed via the Meraki dashboard for location services or IoT applications.

7. Maintenance

  • Firmware Updates: Firmware updates are automatically managed and deployed by the Meraki cloud. Ensure your device has a stable internet connection for these updates.
  • Physical Inspection: Periodically inspect the device and antenna connections for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose fittings, especially in harsh outdoor environments.
  • Cleaning: Gently clean the exterior of the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure all ports are sealed if not in use.
  • Antenna Alignment: Re-check antenna alignment if wireless performance degrades or if the device has been subjected to strong winds or physical impact.
