BDFHYK Front Brake Line Lock Kit (Model XS04-BL) Instruction Manual

Your guide to installation, operation, and maintenance.

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your BDFHYK Front Brake Line Lock Kit. This electromechanical device is designed to temporarily lock the front brakes, primarily for drag racing applications such as warming up rear tires (burnouts) or for momentary hill holding. Please read these instructions thoroughly before installation and use to ensure safe and correct functionality.

2. Safety Information

  • Professional Installation Recommended: The installation of automotive parts, especially those related to braking systems, requires professional knowledge and skills. It is highly recommended that installation be performed under the guidance of a qualified mechanic.
  • System Contamination: Do not allow dirt or foreign matter to contaminate your braking system during installation or operation. Contamination can lead to improper operation and potential system failure.
  • Intended Use: This brake line lock is intended for specific applications such as drag race staging or burnouts. For hill holding, its use is momentary, with a maximum duration of 60 seconds. It is not designed as a permanent parking brake.
  • Braking System Integrity: Ensure all brake lines and connections are secure and leak-free after installation. Any leaks can compromise braking performance.

5. Installation

5.1 General Placement

  • For rear-wheel-drive vehicles, install the electric brake lock in the front braking system.
  • For front-wheel-drive vehicles, install the electric brake lock in the rear braking system.

Ensure the solenoid is mounted securely using the provided screws. The wider lightweight base provides better mounting stability.

5.2 Hydraulic Connections

The solenoid valve has a threaded inlet and outlet. The thread size of the plug is 1/8-27 NPT. When installing the line lock, be sure to add Teflon tape to the threads to prevent leaks and ensure a stable connection. A male adapter on the solenoid is recommended to prevent leaks.

5.3 Electrical Connections

The kit operates on 12-24 volt DC. Connect the inline fuse connector to a 12V positive source. The snap-action switch (stage lock button) controls the solenoid. An indicator light is included to show when the system is active.

Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly insulated. The solenoid will not impede normal braking when installed correctly.

6. Operating Instructions

The BDFHYK Line Lock is designed to hold brake pressure to the front wheels (or rear wheels, depending on installation) for specific performance applications.

6.1 For Burnouts (Warming Up Rear Tires)

  1. Engage the vehicle's brakes firmly.
  2. Activate the line lock by pressing the stage lock button. The indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Release the brake pedal. The line lock will maintain pressure to the front brakes, keeping the front wheels locked.
  4. With the front wheels locked, engage the gas pedal and disengage the clutch pedal (for manual transmissions) to allow the rear tires to spin and warm up.
  5. To disengage the line lock, release the stage lock button. The indicator light will turn off, and brake pressure will return to normal.

6.2 For Momentary Hill Holding

The line lock can be used to momentarily hold the vehicle on an incline, providing a 'third foot' for easier starts, especially with manual transmissions.

  1. While holding the brake pedal, activate the line lock by pressing the stage lock button.
  2. Release the brake pedal. The vehicle will be held by the locked brakes.
  3. To move, engage the clutch and accelerator, then release the stage lock button.

Important: The maximum recommended duration for hill holding is 60 seconds. This device is not a substitute for a parking brake.

7. Maintenance

  • Regularly inspect all brake lines and connections for any signs of leaks or damage.
  • Ensure the solenoid valve and electrical connections are free from dirt, debris, and moisture.
  • Check the functionality of the stage lock button and indicator light periodically.
  • Do not allow dirt or foreign matter to contaminate your braking system. This may cause improper operation and failure.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Line Lock Not Engaging:
    • Check electrical connections for loose wires or corrosion.
    • Verify the fuse is intact and not blown.
    • Ensure the stage lock button is functioning correctly.
    • Confirm the solenoid is receiving 12-24V DC power when activated.
  • Brake Pressure Not Holding / Leaks:
    • Inspect all hydraulic connections for tightness.
    • Ensure Teflon tape was properly applied to threaded connections during installation.
    • Check for any damage to brake lines or the solenoid valve itself.
    • Verify that no dirt or debris has entered the brake system, which could prevent the solenoid from sealing properly.
  • Indicator Light Not Working:
    • Check the bulb or LED for damage.
    • Verify electrical connections to the indicator light.

If you encounter persistent issues, it is recommended to consult a professional mechanic.
