3. Setup

  1. Each player takes one folding game board.
  2. Open your game board. You will see two grids: a lower grid for placing your ships and an upper grid for tracking your opponent's fleet.
  3. Each player receives a set of 5 boat pieces (Carrier, Battleship, Destroyer, Submarine, Patrol Boat), red 'hit' pegs, and blue 'miss' pegs.
  4. Place Your Fleet: Secretly arrange your 5 boat pieces on the lower grid of your board. Ships can be placed horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally. They cannot overlap. Ensure the pegs on the ships fit securely into the holes on the grid.
  5. Prepare Pegs: Keep your red and blue pegs readily accessible.
  6. Players should sit opposite each other so that their opponent cannot see their ship placement.

4. Operating Instructions (How to Play)

  1. Decide which player goes first.
  2. Calling a Shot: On your turn, call out a coordinate (e.g., "A-5") on your opponent's grid. This is where you believe one of their ships is located.
  3. Opponent's Response: Your opponent checks their lower grid (where their ships are placed) for the called coordinate.
  4. Hit or Miss:
    • If the coordinate is occupied by one of their ships, they declare "Hit!" and place a red peg into the corresponding hole on their ship. You then place a red peg on the upper grid of your board at that coordinate to mark a hit.
    • If the coordinate is empty, they declare "Miss!" You then place a blue peg on the upper grid of your board at that coordinate to mark a miss.
  5. Sinking a Ship: When all holes on a ship have been hit, the owner declares "You sank my [name of ship]!"
  6. Winning the Game: The first player to sink all of their opponent's 5 ships wins the game.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your Professor PUZZLE Sea Battle game, follow these simple maintenance tips:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the wooden boards and plastic pegs with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store all game pieces inside the folded game boards when not in use to prevent loss. Keep the game in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Handling: Handle wooden pieces with care to prevent chipping or damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your game, consider the following:

  • Missing Pieces: Ensure all pieces are accounted for before and after play. The compact design helps keep pieces secure during storage.
  • Peg Fit: If pegs are too tight or loose, gently adjust them. The wooden construction may have slight variations.
  • Game Setup: Double-check that ships are placed correctly on the lower grid and pegs are used on the correct grids (red/blue on the upper grid for tracking, red on ships for hits).
