Assembly Instructions
This kit is designed for hands-on soldering practice. Follow the clear silkscreen markings on the PCB board for correct component placement and orientation. Ensure proper polarity for components like diodes, electrolytic capacitors, and LEDs.
- Prepare the PCB: Inspect the PCB for any defects. Familiarize yourself with the component markings and their corresponding locations.
- Solder Resistors and Diodes: Begin by soldering the lowest profile components first. Solder all resistors (1K and 4.7K) and diodes (ensure correct polarity, typically marked with a band).
- Solder Transistors and Capacitors: Solder the 9012 Audion transistors, 22P ceramic capacitors, and the 10UF electrolytic capacitor (observe polarity for the electrolytic capacitor).
- Install IC Socket and Crystal Oscillator: Solder the 40P IC lead socket onto the PCB. Ensure the notch on the socket aligns with the marking on the PCB. Solder the 12M crystal oscillator.
- Solder Buttons and LED: Solder the three push buttons and the 5MM Red LED Light (observe LED polarity).
- Solder Power Sockets and Switch: Solder the DC005 power socket and the self-locking push switch.
- Connect Digital Tube Display: Solder the 3 Bit Digital Tube Display to its designated pins on the PCB.
- Connect Buzzer: Solder the 5V Buzzer to its pads.
- Connect HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor: Solder the HC-SR04 ultrasonic ranging sensor to its dedicated header pins.
- Install STC89C52 Microcontroller: Carefully insert the pre-programmed STC89C52 microcontroller into the 40P IC lead socket. Ensure all pins align with the socket holes and the notch on the chip matches the socket and PCB marking. Apply gentle, even pressure until it is fully seated.
- Connect Battery Holder: Connect the wires from the AAA Battery Holder to the appropriate power input terminals on the PCB.

Setup
Your Ultrasonic Ranging Alarm Kit offers two power supply options:
- AAA Battery Power: Insert AAA batteries into the provided battery holder. Ensure correct polarity.
- USB Power Supply: Connect the supplied USB to DC005 cable to the DC005 socket on the PCB and plug the USB end into a 5V USB power source (e.g., a power bank, computer USB port, or USB wall adapter).
To power on the device, ensure the self-locking push switch is in the 'on' position. The digital display should illuminate, indicating the device is active and ready for operation.
Operating Instructions
The kit functions as an ultrasonic distance sensor with an adjustable alarm. The digital display shows the measured distance in meters.
- Power On: Activate the self-locking push switch to power on the device. The digital display will show the current measured distance.
- Setting Alarm Distance:
- Press and hold the 'S4' button to enter programming mode.
- Use the 'S3' button to increase the alarm distance.
- Use the 'S2' button to decrease the alarm distance.
- Press 'S4' again to exit programming mode and save the set alarm distance.
- Alarm Functionality: When the measured distance is less than the preset alarm distance, the buzzer will sound loudly, and the red LED light will illuminate.
- Display: The 3-bit digital tube displays the distance in meters.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Ultrasonic Ranging Alarm Kit, follow these general maintenance guidelines:
- Keep the device clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Avoid exposing the device to moisture, extreme temperatures, or direct sunlight.
- When not in use for extended periods, remove the AAA batteries to prevent leakage.
- Handle the ultrasonic sensor and digital display with care to prevent damage.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your kit, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Device Not Powering On:
- Check battery installation and ensure batteries are fresh.
- Verify USB cable connection and power source functionality.
- Ensure the self-locking push switch is in the 'on' position.
- Incorrect Distance Readings:
- Ensure the HC-SR04 sensor is clean and unobstructed.
- Verify all sensor connections are secure and properly soldered.
- Buzzer/LED Not Functioning:
- Check the soldering connections for the buzzer and LED.
- Ensure the alarm distance is set correctly and the object is within range.
- Verify correct polarity for the LED and buzzer.
- General Assembly Issues: Double-check all soldering joints for cold joints or bridges. Refer to the circuit diagram (Figure 3) for correct component placement and orientation.
