3. Setup and Installation
3.1. Unboxing and Initial Inspection
Carefully unpack all components and verify that all items are present and undamaged. The package should include the DVR/XVR unit, power adapter, and any included cables (e.g., HDMI, audio/video cables).

Figure 3.1: RVT SECURITY DVR/XVR unit with included accessories. This image displays the front panel of the DVR/XVR, showing indicators for REC, ALM, and PWR, along with a USB port. The rear panel shows various input/output ports including BNC video inputs, HDMI, VGA, audio in/out, LAN, and power input. An HDMI cable and an audio/video cable are also shown.
3.2. Connecting the DVR/XVR
- Connect Cameras: Connect your analog (HDCVI, HDTVI, AHD) cameras to the BNC "VIDEO IN" ports on the rear panel. For IP cameras, connect them to your network, and the DVR will discover them.
- Connect Display: Connect a monitor to the DVR/XVR using either the HDMI or VGA port.
- Connect Audio: If using external microphones, connect them to the "AUDIO IN" RCA ports. For cameras with integrated microphones supporting audio over coaxial, no separate audio cable is needed for those channels.
- Connect Network: Connect an Ethernet cable from the DVR/XVR's LAN port to your router or network switch for network access and P2P functionality.
- Connect Power: Connect the provided power adapter to the "DC 12V" input on the rear panel and plug it into a power outlet. The unit will power on automatically.
3.3. Initial Setup Wizard
Upon the first boot-up, a "Fast Wizard" will appear on your connected monitor. This wizard will guide you through essential initial configurations, including:
- Language selection
- Date and time settings
- Network configuration (DHCP or Static IP)
- Password setup for administrator account
- Hard drive initialization (if a hard drive is installed)
- Camera channel detection and configuration
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the initial setup.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Live View and Recording
After setup, the DVR will display the live view from connected cameras. Recordings will begin based on your configured settings (e.g., continuous, motion detection, scheduled).
4.2. Playback
Access the playback menu to review recorded footage. The Smart Playback feature allows you to quickly filter and find specific events such as motion detection, line crossing, or area intrusion without manual review of long recordings.
4.3. Intelligent Detection Configuration
To configure intelligent detection features:
- Navigate to the main menu and select "AI" or "Smart Detection".
- Choose the desired detection type (e.g., Line Crossing, Area Intrusion, Scene Change).
- Select the camera channel and draw the detection zone or line on the live view.
- Configure alarm actions (e.g., record, send email, push notification).
- Save your settings.
4.4. Cloud Storage Setup
To enable cloud storage for recordings and screenshots:
- Go to the "Storage" or "Cloud" settings in the main menu.
- Select your preferred cloud service (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive).
