3. Setup and Installation

Important: Installation should be performed by a qualified technician. Disconnect power to the heating/cooling system before installation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage.

3.1 Mounting

The T721 thermostat can be mounted on a wall or a standard junction box. Ensure the mounting location is away from drafts, direct sunlight, and heat sources for accurate temperature readings.

3.2 Wiring

Connect the thermostat wires to the color-coded terminal blocks on the universal sub-base. Refer to your HVAC system's wiring diagram for specific connections. The thermostat supports both battery power and 24V hardwired power.

3.3 Initial Configuration

After installation, the thermostat may require initial configuration based on your system type (electric or gas) and desired settings. Consult the detailed installation guide provided with the product for advanced settings such as:

  • Heating and cooling swing (cycle rate) adjustments.
  • 2nd stage adjustments for multi-stage systems.
  • Compressor delay protection (5 minutes, selectable on/off).
  • Filter change indicator (selectable on/off).
  • Room temperature calibration adjustment.

4. Operating Instructions

The T721 thermostat is designed for straightforward operation.

4.1 Display Information

The large digital display shows two primary temperature readings:

  • Room Temperature: The current ambient temperature detected by the thermostat.
  • Set At: The desired temperature you have set for your system.

4.2 Adjusting Temperature

Use the + (plus) and - (minus) buttons located on the right side of the thermostat to increase or decrease the desired set temperature. Each press adjusts the temperature by one degree Fahrenheit.

4.3 Fan Operation

The fan switch, located at the bottom left of the thermostat, has two settings:

  • ON: The fan runs continuously, regardless of whether the heating or cooling system is active.
  • AUTO: The fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is actively operating. This is the recommended setting for energy efficiency.

4.4 System Mode Selection

The system mode switch, located at the bottom right, allows you to select the desired operating mode for your HVAC system:

  • OFF: Turns off both the heating and cooling systems. The fan will also turn off if set to AUTO.
  • HEAT: Activates the heating system to maintain the set temperature.
  • COOL: Activates the cooling system to maintain the set temperature.
  • EmH (Emergency Heat): Engages the auxiliary or emergency heating source, typically used when the primary heat pump is not functioning or during extreme cold.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

If your thermostat is battery-powered or uses batteries as a backup, replace them annually or when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Access the battery compartment as indicated in the product design.

5.2 Filter Change Indicator

If enabled, the filter change indicator will alert you when it's time to replace your HVAC system's air filter. Regularly changing your filter ensures optimal system performance and air quality. Refer to your HVAC system's manual for filter replacement instructions.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your thermostat, try the following common solutions:

  • No Display/No Power: Check batteries and replace if necessary. Ensure the circuit breaker for your HVAC system is not tripped. If hardwired, verify the 24V power supply.
  • System Not Responding: Ensure the system switch is set to HEAT or COOL, not OFF. Check that the fan switch is set to AUTO or ON. Verify that the set temperature is appropriately above (for heat) or below (for cool) the room temperature.
  • Incorrect Temperature Reading: Allow the thermostat to accustom to its environment for at least 15 minutes after installation. Ensure it is not exposed to direct drafts, sunlight, or heat sources. If calibration is needed, refer to the advanced settings in the full installation guide.
  • Compressor Short Cycling: If the compressor turns on and off too frequently, check the compressor delay protection setting. This feature is designed to prevent damage from rapid cycling.

For persistent issues, consult a qualified HVAC technician.
