Installation Instructions

Follow these steps for proper installation of the I-Beam Adapter Mounting Kit. Refer to the diagrams and tables for specific details.

  1. Determine I-Beam Flange Width: Measure the width of the I-beam flange where the adapter will be mounted. This measurement is critical for selecting the correct mounting holes on the adapter.
  2. Top view of the I-Beam Adapter showing inner, middle, and outer holes, alongside a table correlating I-Beam Flange Width to I-Beam Adapter Mounting Holes.

I-Beam Flange WidthI-Beam Adapter Mounting Holes
    5–6 5/8 in. (127–168 mm)Inner holes
    >6 5/8–8 1/4 in. (168–210 mm)Middle holes
    >8 1/4–9 7/8 in. (210–250 mm)Outer holes
  3. Assemble Beam Clip Hardware: Refer to Figure 4 for the components of the beam clip hardware. The kit includes (4) 1/2-13 x 2" GR 8 Bolts, (8) 1/2" Flat Washers, (4) 1/2-13 Nylock Nuts, (2) Beam Clamps, and (2) Spacers.
  4. Attach Adapter to I-Beam: Position the I-Beam Adapter against the I-beam. Insert the bolts through the appropriate mounting holes on the adapter (determined in step 1), through the beam clamps, and secure with flat washers and nylock nuts. Loosely tighten the hardware to allow for minor adjustments.
  5. Diagram showing the assembly of beam clip hardware and how the I-Beam Adapter attaches to an I-beam.

  6. Install Extension Tube (if applicable): If your fan requires an extension tube, install it into the I-Beam Adapter. Secure it according to the fan's specific instructions.
  7. Mount the Fan: Carefully lift and attach your Big Ass Fan (Essence or e-Series) to the installed I-Beam Adapter and extension tube. Ensure all connections are secure and tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.
  8. Final Tightening: Once the fan is in place and aligned, fully tighten all bolts and nuts on the I-Beam Adapter and fan mounting hardware. Double-check all connections for security.

Operating Instructions

The I-Beam Adapter Mounting Kit itself does not have operational controls. Its function is to provide a stable and secure mounting point for your Big Ass Fan. Refer to your specific Big Ass Fan model's instruction manual for operating procedures, including power connection, speed control, and any smart features.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the I-Beam Adapter Mounting Kit is crucial for long-term safety and performance.

  • Periodic Inspection: Annually inspect all bolts, nuts, and clamps for tightness. Vibration from fan operation can sometimes loosen fasteners over time.
  • Corrosion Check: For outdoor or damp environments, regularly check the adapter and hardware for any signs of corrosion. The aluminum material is designed for durability, but extreme conditions may require more frequent checks.
  • Structural Integrity: Periodically inspect the I-beam itself for any signs of stress, cracks, or deformation around the mounting points.
  • Cleaning: Clean the adapter with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues related to the I-Beam Adapter Mounting Kit, consider the following:

  • Fan Wobble/Vibration: Ensure all mounting hardware is securely tightened. Refer to the fan's manual for balancing procedures if the wobble persists.
  • Loose Connection: Re-check the tightness of all bolts and nuts on the adapter and beam clamps. Ensure the correct mounting holes were used for your I-beam flange width.
  • Unusual Noises: Verify that no part of the adapter or fan is making contact with the I-beam or other structural elements.
  • Corrosion: If corrosion is observed, consult with a qualified professional for assessment and repair or replacement.

For persistent issues, contact Big Ass Fans customer support or a certified professional.
