1. Introduction

The Cobra RX380 walkie talkies are designed for reliable two-way communication in various outdoor conditions. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your devices.

2. What's in the Box

Your Cobra RX380 package should contain the following items:

3. Setup Guide

3.1. Battery Installation

The Cobra RX380 walkie talkies use 6 AA batteries (3 per radio), which are included. For optimal performance, use the provided rechargeable NiMH batteries.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  2. Press down on the latch and slide the cover off.
  3. Insert the 3 AA batteries into the compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover, sliding it until it clicks securely into place.

3.2. Charging the Batteries

Before first use, fully charge the rechargeable batteries. The charging cable is included.

  1. Connect the USB-Y charging cable to the charging port on each radio.
  2. Plug the other end of the USB-Y cable into a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port.
  3. The battery indicator on the radio's display will show charging status.
  4. Charging typically takes several hours. The indicator will show full when complete.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Power On/Off and Volume

  • To power on, press and hold the MODE button until the display lights up.
  • To power off, press and hold the MODE button until the display turns off.
  • Adjust volume using the UP and DOWN buttons.

4.2. Channel Selection

The RX380 features 40 preset channels, including 22 standard FRS channels and 18 pre-programmed channel/privacy code combinations.

  1. Press the MODE button once to enter channel selection mode. The channel number will flash.
  2. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select your desired channel.
  3. Press the MODE button again to confirm the channel.

4.3. Transmitting and Receiving

  • To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  • Release the PTT button to receive.

4.4. Call Tones

The radio offers 10 selectable call tones to alert other users that you are calling.

  • Press the CALL button to send a call tone.

4.5. Channel Scan

The channel scan feature automatically scans channels for incoming transmissions.

  • To activate channel scan, press the SCAN button (often combined with another function, refer to button labels). The radio will cycle through channels until a signal is detected.

4.6. NOAA Weather Alerts

Access 24/7 NOAA weather channels to stay informed about weather conditions.

  • To access NOAA weather channels, press the WX button (or similar, check radio labels).

4.7. Built-in LED Flashlight

The radio includes a built-in LED flashlight for convenience and an SOS function for emergencies.

  • To turn on the flashlight, press the LIGHT button (or similar, check radio labels).
  • To activate the SOS function, press and hold the SOS button (or similar, check radio labels).

5.1. Cleaning

  • Wipe the radio's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the charging port cover is securely closed when not charging to maintain weather resistance.

  • Store the radios in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
