SOLOMARK 130EQ

SOLOMARK 130EQ Newtonian Reflector Telescope User Manual

Model: 130EQ

1. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety precautions before using your telescope. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the equipment.

  • Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or through the telescope without a certified solar filter. Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result.
  • Do not use eyepiece solar filters. Internal heat buildup inside the telescope can cause these devices to crack or break, allowing unfiltered sunlight to pass through to the eye.
  • Do not use your telescope to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat buildup can damage the telescope and any accessories attached to it.
  • Do not leave the telescope unsupervised, especially when children or adults unfamiliar with correct operating procedures are present.

4. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to correctly assemble your SOLOMARK 130EQ Telescope. It is recommended to perform assembly indoors in a well-lit area.

4.1. Tripod Assembly

  1. Unfold the tripod legs and extend them to your desired height. Secure each leg with the locking clamps.
  2. Attach the accessory tray to the center brace of the tripod. Ensure it is securely fastened.

4.2. Equatorial Mount Setup

  1. Attach the equatorial mount head to the top of the tripod. Secure it using the large bolt from underneath the tripod head.
  2. Install the counterweight shaft into the mount. Thread the counterweight onto the shaft and secure it with the locking screw.
  3. Attach the Right Ascension and Declination control cables to their respective ports on the mount.

4.3. Attaching the Optical Tube

  1. Open the tube rings and place the main optical tube inside. Close the rings and secure them firmly.
  2. Attach the tube rings (with the optical tube) to the dovetail base on the equatorial mount. Tighten the screws to ensure the telescope is stable.

Video 4.3: Instructions on how to mount the updated dovetail and optical tube to the equatorial mount.

4.4. Installing the Finder Scope

  1. Locate the finder scope bracket on the optical tube.
  2. Slide the finder scope into its bracket and secure it with the small screws.

4.5. Inserting Eyepieces and Accessories

  1. Remove the dust cap from the focuser.
  2. Insert your desired eyepiece (e.g., 20mm for wide views) into the focuser. Tighten the thumbscrew to hold it in place.
  3. To increase magnification, insert the 1.5X Barlow lens into the focuser first, then insert the eyepiece into the Barlow lens.
  4. For lunar observation, thread the 13% Transmission Moon Filter onto the bottom of your eyepiece before inserting it into the focuser or Barlow lens.
  5. Attach the smartphone adapter to an eyepiece for astrophotography.

5. Operating Instructions

Once assembled, your SOLOMARK 130EQ Telescope is ready for observation. Follow these guidelines for optimal use.

5.1. Aligning the Finder Scope

The finder scope helps you locate objects before viewing them through the main telescope. It must be aligned with the main telescope first.

  1. During daylight hours, point the main telescope at a distant, easily identifiable object (e.g., a treetop or building corner).
  2. Center the object in the main telescope's eyepiece.
  3. Look through the finder scope and adjust its alignment screws until the same object is centered in the finder scope's crosshairs.

5.2. Focusing the Telescope

To achieve a clear image, adjust the focuser:

  • Turn the focus knobs slowly until the image in the eyepiece is sharp.
  • For fine adjustments, use the smaller focus knob if available.

5.3. Tracking Celestial Objects

The German Equatorial Mount allows you to track objects as they move across the night sky due to Earth's rotation.

  • After locating an object, use the Right Ascension (RA) and Declination (DEC) control cables to make small adjustments to keep the object centered in your view.
  • For prolonged observation, especially at higher magnifications, continuous small adjustments will be necessary.

6. Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity and performance of your telescope.

  • Cleaning Optics: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. Avoid touching the mirror surfaces.
  • Dust Protection: Always keep dust caps on the optical tube and eyepieces when not in use.
  • Storage: Store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Regular Checks: Periodically check all screws and bolts for tightness to maintain stability.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
