1. Product Overview

The Lascar EL-USB-2-LCD EasyLog Temperature and Humidity Data Logger is a standalone device designed to measure and record temperature and humidity readings. It features an on-board LCD display for real-time viewing of current, minimum, and maximum logged values.

This data logger is capable of storing over 16,000 readings within a temperature range of -35 to +80°C (-31 to +176°F) and a humidity range of 0 to 100% RH. Data can be easily downloaded to a PC via its USB port using the free EasyLog software for detailed analysis, graphing, printing, and export.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the rear of the data logger.
  2. Carefully open the compartment cover.
  3. Insert the supplied ½ AA battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2. Software Installation

The EasyLog software is required to configure the data logger and download recorded data. It is available for free download from the Lascar website.

  1. Visit the official Lascar Electronics website.
  2. Navigate to the support or downloads section for the EL-USB-2-LCD model.
  3. Download the latest version of the EasyLog software.
  4. Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
  5. Once installed, launch the EasyLog software.

3.3. Connecting to PC

To configure the logger or download data, connect it to your computer:

  1. Remove the clear protective cap from the USB connector end of the data logger.
  2. Plug the data logger directly into an available USB port on your PC.
  3. The PC should recognize the device. If prompted, allow driver installation.
  4. Open the EasyLog software. The software will detect the connected logger.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Configuring the Data Logger

Before starting a logging session, configure the logger using the EasyLog software:

  1. Connect the data logger to your PC and open the EasyLog software.
  2. In the software, select the connected logger.
  3. Set parameters such as:
    • Logging Rate: How often readings are taken (e.g., every 10 seconds, 1 minute, 1 hour).
    • Start Mode: Immediate, push-button, or delayed start.
    • Alarm Thresholds: Upper and lower limits for temperature and humidity.
    • Units: °C/°F for temperature.
  4. Apply the settings to the data logger. The logger is now ready to begin logging.

4.2. Starting and Stopping Logging

Depending on your chosen start mode:

  • Immediate Start: Logging begins as soon as settings are applied and the logger is disconnected from the PC.
  • Push-Button Start: Press and hold the button on the logger until the 'REC' indicator appears on the LCD.
  • Delayed Start: Logging will begin at the specified date and time.

To stop logging, reconnect the logger to the PC and use the EasyLog software to stop the session, or configure an end time/number of readings.

4.3. Viewing Data on LCD

The EL-USB-2-LCD features an on-board display. Press the button on the logger to cycle through the following information:

  • Current Temperature
  • Current Humidity
  • Minimum Temperature recorded during the session
  • Maximum Temperature recorded during the session
  • Minimum Humidity recorded during the session
  • Maximum Humidity recorded during the session

4.4. Downloading Data

  1. Connect the data logger to your PC via USB.
  2. Open the EasyLog software.
  3. The software will automatically detect the logger and prompt you to download the data.
  4. Once downloaded, the data can be viewed as a graph, table, or exported to formats like CSV for further analysis in other applications.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Battery Replacement

The data logger uses a ½ AA 3.6V Lithium battery. When the battery indicator on the LCD or software shows low power, replace the battery promptly to ensure continuous operation and data integrity.

  1. Ensure the logger is not actively logging data.
  2. Open the battery compartment as described in Section 3.1.
  3. Remove the old battery and insert a new ½ AA 3.6V Lithium battery, observing polarity.
  4. Close the compartment securely.

5.2. Cleaning

Clean the exterior of the data logger with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no moisture enters the USB port or sensor areas.

5.3. Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the data logger in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Removing the battery during long-term storage is recommended to prevent leakage.

6. Troubleshooting
