Setup
Battery Installation
The VIVOSUN 5-in-1 Digital PH Meter requires 3 cell batteries (not included). To install or replace batteries:
- Unscrew the battery cap at the top of the meter.
- Insert 3 cell batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
- Securely screw the battery cap back on.
Initial Preparation
Before first use, or after prolonged storage, it is recommended to rinse the electrode with distilled water and gently blot dry. Ensure the protective cap is removed before use.
Operating Instructions
The meter features a simple three-button interface: ON/OFF, HOLD/TEMP, and MODE/CAL.
Power On/Off
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn the meter on.
- Press and hold the ON/OFF button for a few seconds to turn the meter off. The meter also features an auto-shut off function after approximately 5 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
Switching Measurement Modes
After powering on, the meter defaults to pH mode. To cycle through the different measurement modes (pH, TDS, EC, Salinity, Temperature), press the MODE/CAL button repeatedly.

Taking Measurements
- Ensure the meter is in the desired measurement mode.
- Immerse the electrode of the meter into the liquid up to the maximum immersion line.
- Gently stir the meter to remove any air bubbles and allow the reading to stabilize.
- Read the stable value displayed on the screen.
Hold Function
Press the HOLD/TEMP button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold and resume live readings.
Temperature Unit Switching
While in any measurement mode, press and hold the HOLD/TEMP button for a few seconds to switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) temperature units.
Specific Measurement Details:
- pH Measurement: Measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution (0.00-14.00pH).

Figure 4: PH Level chart showing common substances and their typical pH ranges.
- TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Measurement: Measures the concentration of dissolved solid particles in a solution. Range: 0-1000ppm; 10.1-200.0ppt.

Figure 5: TDS in PPM chart indicating water quality levels based on dissolved solids.
- EC (Electrical Conductivity) Measurement: Measures the electrical conductivity of a solution, indicating the concentration of ions. Range: 0-9990µS/cm; 10.01-19.99 mS/cm; 20.1-400.0 mS/cm.

Figure 6: EC measurement in a hydroponic setup, showing typical ranges and resolution.
- Salinity Measurement: Measures the salt content of a solution. Range: 0.01-25.00 %; 0-10000 ppm; 10.1-200.0 ppt. Salinity is converted through EC.

Maintenance
Calibration
The meter features automatic three-point calibration for pH (pH 4.00, pH 6.86, and pH 9.18). Regular calibration ensures accuracy.
- Prepare the calibration buffer solutions (pH 4.00, 6.86, 9.18).
- Turn on the meter and switch to pH mode.
- Immerse the electrode in the 6.86 pH buffer solution.
- Press and hold the MODE/CAL button until "CAL" appears on the screen. The meter will automatically recognize the solution and calibrate.
- Rinse the electrode with distilled water and repeat the process for pH 4.00 and pH 9.18 solutions.
Note: EC and TDS calibration may require specific solutions not included with the meter. Refer to specialized guides for advanced calibration.
Cleaning and Storage
- After each use, rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled water to prevent contamination.
- Gently blot the electrode dry with a clean, soft cloth. Do not rub.
- Always replace the protective cap to keep the electrode moist and protected.
- Store the meter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inaccurate readings | Uncalibrated meter, dirty electrode, expired buffer solutions, low battery. | Calibrate the meter, clean the electrode, use fresh buffer solutions, replace batteries. |
| Display shows "Err" or "---" | Out of range measurement, sensor damage, internal error. | Ensure sample is within measurement range. If problem persists, contact customer support. |
| Meter does not turn on | Dead batteries, incorrect battery installation. | Replace batteries, check battery polarity. |
| Slow response time | Dry electrode, dirty electrode. | Soak electrode in storage solution (or pH 7 buffer) for 30 minutes, then clean and recalibrate. |
