3. Features

  • Wrap-Around Ear Clip Design: Provides a comfortable and secure fit, suitable for extended wear.
  • Inline VOX/PTT Switch: Allows for hands-free Voice Operated Exchange (VOX) or Push-to-Talk (PTT) functionality directly from the headset.
  • Separate Microphone and Speaker Cables: Ensures clear audio transmission by minimizing interference between microphone input and speaker output.
  • Adjustable Microphone Position: The microphone can be positioned for optimal voice pickup.
  • Lapel Clip: For convenient attachment to clothing, keeping the headset secure and accessible.
  • Reinforced Earphone Clip: Enhances cable retention and reduces strain on the earphone connection.
  • Versatile Earplugs: Includes two different shapes of earplugs for improved comfort and fit.

4. Setup and Installation

  1. Choose Earplug: Select the earplug shape that provides the most comfortable and secure fit for your ear.
  2. Position Headset: Place the wrap-around ear clip over your ear. The transparent acoustic tube should extend into your ear canal.
  3. Attach Lapel Clip: Secure the lapel clip to your collar or clothing at a comfortable height. This helps manage the cable and keeps the VOX/PTT switch easily accessible.
  4. Connect to Radio: Insert the dual 3.5mm + 2.5mm audio jack into the corresponding port on your Midland GMRS, GXT, LXT, or G-series radio. Ensure the connection is firm.

5. Operating Instructions

Once connected to your compatible Midland radio, the headset allows for two primary modes of communication:

  • Push-to-Talk (PTT): Press and hold the PTT button on the inline switch to transmit your voice. Release the button to listen.
  • Voice Operated Exchange (VOX): If your radio supports VOX functionality, you can activate it on your radio. The headset's microphone will then automatically transmit when it detects your voice, eliminating the need to press the PTT button. Refer to your radio's manual for VOX activation and sensitivity settings.

Ensure the microphone is positioned correctly for clear voice pickup. The separate cables for the microphone and speaker are designed to prevent interference and provide clear audio.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the earplugs and acoustic tube with a soft, damp cloth. For hygiene, earplugs can be gently washed with mild soap and water, then thoroughly dried before reattachment.
  • Storage: Store the headset in a clean, dry place away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Avoid tangling the cables.
  • Cable Care: Do not pull on the cables to disconnect the headset from the radio or to remove it from your ear. Always grasp the plug or the ear clip directly.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Audio / Poor Audio Quality:
    • Ensure the headset connector is fully inserted into the radio's port.
    • Check radio volume settings.
    • Verify that the earplug and acoustic tube are clean and unobstructed.
    • Test the headset with another compatible radio if possible.
  • Microphone Not Transmitting:
    • Ensure the PTT button is being pressed correctly, or VOX is properly enabled on your radio.
    • Check the microphone's position relative to your mouth.
    • Confirm the headset is securely connected to the radio.
  • Compatibility Issues:
    • This headset is designed exclusively for Midland GXT, LXT, and G-series radios. It is not compatible with other brands such as Baofeng, Kenwood, Puxing, Motorola, etc.
    • Refer to Figure 4 for the specific connector type.
