Control of the Formation Audio and playback of your favorite tracks from various sources in different rooms is managed via the iOS/Android compatible B&W Music App. Connectivity options include built-in Bluetooth 4.1, AirPlay 2 (compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 11.4 or later, Mac or PC with iTunes 12.8 or later), Wi-Fi, and Spotify Connect. This allows streaming from popular services like Spotify, Tidal, TuneIn, Qobuz, NTS, Soundcloud, and Dash. For an immersive, hi-resolution whole-home entertainment setup, the Formation Audio can be paired with other Formation Series speakers, soundbars, and subwoofers.

Setup

1. Initial Placement and Power Connection

Place the Formation Audio unit on a stable, flat surface, away from direct heat sources or excessive moisture. Connect the supplied power cord to the 'POWER' input on the rear panel of the Formation Audio and then to a suitable wall outlet.

2. Connecting Audio Sources

Operating Instructions

Using the B&W Music App

The B&W Music App is the primary interface for controlling your Formation Audio and managing your multi-room audio system. Through the app, you can:

  • Select audio sources (connected analog/optical devices, streaming services).
  • Control playback (play, pause, skip tracks).
  • Adjust volume.
  • Group Formation devices for synchronized multi-room audio or play different content in different rooms.
  • Access and manage streaming services like Spotify, Tidal, TuneIn, Qobuz, Soundcloud, and Dash (subscriptions may be required).

Wireless Audio Playback

  • Bluetooth 4.1: Pair your mobile device directly with the Formation Audio via Bluetooth for quick and easy streaming.
  • AirPlay 2: Stream audio from Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch with iOS 11.4+, Mac, or PC with iTunes 12.8+) directly to the Formation Audio.
  • Spotify Connect: Control music playback on your Formation Audio directly from the Spotify app.
  • Wi-Fi Streaming: Utilize the B&W Music App to stream high-resolution audio over your home Wi-Fi network from various integrated services.
