Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Prepare Filter Media: Rinse all filter media (sponges, ceramic rings, bio-balls) thoroughly under clean water. Place them into the designated media baskets within the filter canister. Ensure the media is arranged for optimal flow (mechanical, then biological, then chemical if applicable).
  3. Assemble Canister: Securely close the filter canister by aligning the pump head with the canister body and engaging the locking clips. Ensure a tight seal.
  4. Connect Hoses: Attach the inlet and outlet hoses to the corresponding ports on the pump head. Ensure the connections are secure to prevent leaks.
  5. Install Inlet/Outlet Pipes: Assemble the inlet and outlet pipework according to your aquarium setup. The inlet pipe should be placed deep enough in the aquarium to draw water effectively, and the outlet pipe should return filtered water to the tank. Use suction cups to secure the pipes.
  6. Position Filter: Place the filter canister on a stable surface below the aquarium's water level.
  7. Prime the Filter: To siphon water into the filter, fill the filter canister with water through the outlet hose or by using the priming pump mechanism (if available on your model). Once filled, turn on the power. The pump will begin circulating water.

Operating Instructions

Once the filter is set up and primed, plug it into a suitable power outlet. The pump will start circulating water, drawing it from the aquarium, passing it through the filter media, and returning clean water to the tank. The quiet operation ensures minimal disturbance to your aquatic environment.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your filter. It is designed for easy maintenance with convenient access for cleaning and replacing filter media.

  • Weekly: Check water flow rate. If significantly reduced, it may indicate clogged media.
  • Monthly (or as needed):
    1. Disconnect power to the filter.
    2. Close the inlet/outlet valves (if equipped) to prevent water backflow.
    3. Carefully detach the hoses and remove the pump head.
    4. Open the canister and remove the media baskets.
    5. Rinse mechanical filter media (sponges) in old aquarium water to preserve beneficial bacteria. Replace if heavily soiled or degraded.
    6. Rinse biological media (ceramic rings, bio-balls) gently in old aquarium water. Do not clean too vigorously, as this can remove beneficial bacteria.
    7. Clean the impeller and impeller housing in the pump head to remove any debris or buildup.
    8. Reassemble the filter, ensuring all seals are properly seated and locking clips are secure.
    9. Reconnect hoses, prime the filter, and restore power.
  • Every 3-6 Months: Consider replacing chemical filter media (e.g., activated carbon) as it becomes exhausted over time.
