3. Installation Instructions

3.1 Required Tools

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and Flat-blade)
  • Torque wrench (optional, for precise terminal tightening)

3.2 Panel Preparation

  • Ensure the panel has a 22mm diameter mounting hole.
  • Clean the surface around the mounting hole before installation.

3.3 Separating Button Parts for Mounting

To mount the switch into a panel, the button head assembly must be separated from the contact base. This process requires careful handling to avoid damage.

  1. Identify the Latch: On the side of the black contact base, locate a small keyhole-shaped hole, often near a marking like '13' on the baseplate. This hole conceals a latch mechanism.
  2. Release the Latch: Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver (approximately 3/16" wide) into this keyhole-shaped hole. Gently twist the screwdriver slightly. This action will release the internal latch that secures the button head to the contact base.
  3. Separate Components: While holding the contact base, apply gentle upward pressure to the button head assembly. The button head should now detach from the contact base. Avoid excessive force.
  4. Reassembly: To reassemble, align the button head with the contact base, ensuring correct orientation. Press them together until the latch mechanism clicks securely into place.

3.4 Inserting Button into Panel Hole

  • Insert the front part of the button (the button head assembly) into the prepared 22mm panel hole.
  • Ensure the button is correctly aligned as desired.

3.5 Attaching the Button to the Panel

  • Mount the retaining ring onto the back of the button's threaded portion.
  • Tighten the retaining ring until the button is firmly secured to the panel.

3.6 Wiring Connections

The switch includes 4 screw terminals: 1 Normally Open (NO) and 1 Normally Closed (NC) contact. The green button controls the NO terminals, and the red button controls the NC terminals.

  • Identify the button terminals: 1 (NC), 2 (NC), 3 (NO), and 4 (NO).
  • Connect the wires according to your specific circuit requirements.
  • For the Normally Open (NO) circuit: Live wire input typically goes into terminal 3, and live wire output into terminal 4.
  • For the Normally Closed (NC) circuit: Neutral wire input typically goes into terminal 2, and neutral wire output into terminal 1.
  • Secure the connection screws with a torque between 0.8 - 1.2 Nm to ensure reliable contact.

3.7 Verification and Testing

  • Ensure the button is securely fastened to the panel.
  • Before energizing the circuit, test the button functionality (e.g., continuity check for NO/NC contacts).
  • Verify that the button returns to its original position after being pressed.

3.8 Additional Notes

Consult a qualified electrician or specialist if you have any doubts about the electrical installation process.

4. Operating Instructions

The SHOPCORP XB2-EW8465 features a double-head design for intuitive control:

  • Green Button (ON/Start): This button activates the Normally Open (NO) contacts. When pressed, the NO contacts close, completing the circuit. It is typically used for 'Start' or 'ON' functions. The button is designed to be slightly recessed to prevent accidental activation.
  • Red Button (OFF/Stop): This button activates the Normally Closed (NC) contacts. When pressed, the NC contacts open, breaking the circuit. It is typically used for 'Stop' or 'OFF' functions. The button is designed to be raised for easy access in emergency situations.
  • Signal Lamp: The integrated amber signal lamp provides visual feedback on the circuit status. Its illumination indicates power presence or a specific operational state, depending on how it is wired into the control circuit.

These buttons are momentary, meaning they return to their original state once released. For latching ON/OFF functionality, the switch must be integrated into a control circuit with a contactor or relay.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your XB2-EW8465 push button switch:

  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the switch for any signs of physical damage, wear, or loose connections.
  • Cleaning: Keep the surface of the push button and signal lamp clean from dust, dirt, and debris using a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Connection Check: Ensure all wire connections at the terminals remain tight and secure. Loose connections can lead to intermittent operation or overheating.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the switch operates within the specified ambient temperature and humidity ranges to prevent premature failure.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your XB2-EW8465 switch, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Switch Not Responding:
    • Verify that the power supply to the circuit is active.
    • Check all wiring connections for tightness and correct terminal assignment (NO/NC).
    • Ensure the button mechanism moves freely and returns to its original position after being pressed.
  • Signal Lamp Not Illuminating or Dim:
    • Confirm the voltage supplied to the signal lamp matches its rated voltage (e.g., a 220V lamp will be dim on 120V AC).
    • Check the wiring to the signal lamp terminals for correct connection and continuity.
    • The signal lamp uses a standard BA9S incandescent bulb. If the bulb is faulty, it can be replaced with a compatible bulb of the correct voltage and type.
  • Difficulty Disassembling for Mounting:
    • Refer to Section 3.3, "Separating Button Parts for Mounting," for detailed instructions on how to release the internal latch using a small flat-blade screwdriver. Avoid forcing the components apart.

7. Safety Information

Please observe the following safety precautions during installation, operation, and maintenance:

  • Electrical Hazard: Always disconnect power to the circuit before performing any installation, wiring, or maintenance to prevent electric shock.
  • Qualified Personnel: Installation and wiring should only be performed by qualified and experienced personnel familiar with electrical systems and safety standards.
  • Correct Voltage: Ensure the operating voltage of the switch and signal lamp is compatible with your electrical system. Exceeding rated voltages can cause damage or hazards.
  • Proper Grounding: Ensure all components are properly grounded according to local electrical codes and standards.
  • Environmental Conditions: Do not expose the switch to conditions outside its specified ambient temperature and humidity ranges, or to corrosive environments.
  • Secure Connections: All electrical connections must be tight and secure to prevent arcing, overheating, and potential fire hazards.
