Safety Information

Your safety is paramount. This helmet is equipped with advanced features to help protect you.

  • MIPS Protection: The MIPS system is a low-friction layer inside the helmet that allows a multi-directional movement of 10-15 mm on certain angled impacts. This is intended to reduce rotational force to the head during a crash.
  • LED Lights: The integrated 360-degree LED light system enhances your visibility to others, especially in low-light conditions. However, these lights are not a substitute for proper bicycle lighting required by law.
  • Always wear your helmet correctly fitted and securely fastened.
  • Inspect your helmet regularly for any signs of damage. If the helmet has sustained an impact, even if no damage is visible, it should be replaced immediately.
  • Do not modify the helmet in any way, as this may compromise its protective capabilities.

Setup and Fitting

Proper helmet fit is crucial for maximum protection. Follow these steps to ensure your VIO helmet fits correctly.

  1. Positioning: Place the helmet squarely on your head, covering your forehead. It should not be tilted back or forward.
  2. Adjusting the Retention System: Use the adjustable spin dial located at the back of the helmet to tighten or loosen the internal retention system. Turn the dial clockwise to tighten and counter-clockwise to loosen until the helmet feels snug but comfortable. It should not move excessively when you shake your head.
  3. Strap Adjustment:
    • Adjust the side straps so that they form a "V" shape just below your ears.
    • Fasten the magnetic buckle under your chin.
    • Tighten the chin strap until it is snug. You should be able to open your mouth wide, but the helmet should not slide forward or backward.
  4. Visor Attachment (Optional): The helmet includes a removable visor. Align the visor's pins with the corresponding slots on the helmet and press firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure it is securely attached.

Operating the LED Lights

The Nutcase VIO helmet features an integrated LED lighting system for enhanced visibility.

  • Power On/Off: Locate the power button, typically near the rear or side LED strip. Press and hold the button for approximately 2-3 seconds to turn the lights on or off.
  • Changing Light Modes: Once the lights are on, short press the power button to cycle through the available light modes (e.g., steady, flashing, pulse). Refer to the specifications for the exact number of modes.
  • Charging:
    • The helmet's LED system is powered by a rechargeable battery.
    • To charge, locate the charging port (usually covered by a rubber flap) and connect the provided USB charging cable.
    • Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power source (e.g., computer, wall adapter).
    • An indicator light will typically show charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).
    • Charging time is approximately 2 hours for a full charge.
    • Run time varies by mode, with up to 3 hours on the low setting.

Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life and effectiveness of your helmet.

  • Cleaning:
    • Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth, mild soap, and water only.
    • Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the helmet's materials and finish.
    • The internal padding can often be removed and hand-washed with mild soap and water, then air-dried.
  • Battery Care:
    • To maintain battery health, charge the helmet's lights regularly, even if not in frequent use.
    • Avoid fully depleting the battery for extended periods.
    • Store the helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Storage: Store your helmet in a safe place where it won't be exposed to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or potential impacts.
