2. Setup and Installation

The PRO Trial Tank Bag utilizes the SW-Motech PRO tank ring system for secure and quick attachment to your motorcycle. Ensure you have the correct PRO tank ring for your specific motorcycle model.

2.1 Attaching the Tank Ring (if not already installed)

  1. Identify Mounting Points: Locate the fuel tank cap screws on your motorcycle.
  2. Remove Screws: Carefully remove the existing screws securing the fuel tank cap.
  3. Position Tank Ring: Place the SW-Motech PRO tank ring over the fuel tank cap, aligning the screw holes.
  4. Secure Tank Ring: Use the longer screws provided with your PRO tank ring to secure it to the fuel tank. Tighten them evenly and firmly, but do not overtighten.
  5. Verify Stability: Gently attempt to move the tank ring to ensure it is securely fastened.

2.2 Attaching the Tank Bag to the Tank Ring

  1. Align Bag: Position the tank bag over the PRO tank ring, ensuring the guide rail on the bag aligns with the tank ring.
  2. Press Down: Gently press the tank bag down onto the tank ring until you hear a distinct "click." This indicates the locking mechanism has engaged.
  3. Test Security: Before riding, always pull upwards on the tank bag to confirm it is securely locked in place and cannot be easily removed.

2.3 Removing the Tank Bag

  • Locate Release Strap: Find the release strap or lever, typically located at the front underside of the tank bag.
  • Pull Release: Pull the release strap firmly. This will disengage the locking mechanism.
  • Lift Bag: While holding the strap, lift the tank bag straight up from the tank ring.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Expanding Capacity

The PRO Trial Tank Bag features an expandable volume. To increase the capacity from 13 liters to 18 liters, locate the expansion zipper around the base of the main compartment. Unzip this zipper completely to extend the bag's height and volume.

3.2 Using Compartments

  • Main Compartment: Access the main storage area via the large top zipper. This is suitable for larger items.
  • Side Pockets: Utilize the zippered side pockets for smaller items that require quick access, such as keys, wallets, or small electronics.
  • Map Holder/Tablet Compartment: If equipped, the transparent top compartment is ideal for maps, smartphones, or small tablets. Ensure devices are protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

3.3 Cable Pass-Through (if applicable)

Some PRO tank bags include a cable pass-through. This allows for charging cables or headphone wires to be routed from inside the bag to external devices while maintaining weather resistance. Locate the designated port and ensure it is sealed when not in use.

4. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the tank bag with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the material.
  • Drying: Allow the bag to air dry completely before storing. Do not use direct heat sources.
  • Zipper Care: Periodically apply a silicone-based lubricant to the zippers to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion.
  • Storage: Store the tank bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Ensure it is empty and clean before long-term storage.
  • Water Resistance: While the bag offers good water resistance, for heavy rain or prolonged exposure, consider using a rain cover (often sold separately or included) to protect contents.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Bag Not Locking Securely:
    • Ensure the PRO tank ring is correctly installed and tightened on the motorcycle.
    • Verify that the bag's base plate is properly aligned with the tank ring before pressing down.
    • Check for any obstructions between the bag and the tank ring.
  • Difficulty Removing Bag:
    • Ensure the release strap is pulled fully and held while lifting the bag.
    • Check for any debris or foreign objects in the locking mechanism.
  • Zippers Sticking:
    • Clean the zipper teeth with a small brush to remove dirt.
    • Apply a zipper lubricant or wax to the teeth and slider.
