SXDD Wireless Dog Fence Electric Pet Containment System User Manual

Model: KD-661C

1. Introduction

The SXDD Wireless Dog Fence Electric Pet Containment System (Model KD-661C) is designed to provide a safe and effective boundary for your pet without the need for physical fences. This system uses a central transmitter to create a customizable circular containment area, and a receiver collar worn by your dog provides corrective stimuli if they approach or cross the boundary.

This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your wireless pet containment system to ensure the safety and well-being of your dog.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before using this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in harm to your pet or damage to the system.

  • Not for Aggressive Dogs: Do not use this product on aggressive dogs. If you are unsure if your dog is aggressive, consult a veterinarian or certified trainer.
  • Age and Health: This system is recommended for dogs over 3 months old and weighing at least 10 lbs. Ensure your dog is in good health before using the system. Consult a veterinarian if you have any concerns.
  • Collar Fit: The receiver collar must fit snugly but comfortably. Avoid leaving the collar on for more than 12 hours a day to prevent skin irritation. Regularly check your dog's neck for signs of irritation or sores.
  • Supervision: Initially, supervise your dog closely when using the system to ensure they understand the boundaries and respond appropriately to the corrections.
  • Training: Proper training is essential for the system's effectiveness. Do not rely solely on the system to contain your dog without proper training.
  • Static Correction: The static correction is designed to be a deterrent, not to cause harm. The intensity is proportional to the dog's proximity to the boundary.

5. Setup Guide

5.1 Charging the Devices

Before initial use, fully charge both the transmitter and the receiver collars. Connect the charger to the devices and a power outlet. The LED indicators will show charging status.

5.2 Transmitter Placement

The transmitter creates a circular boundary. Choose a central location for the transmitter within the desired containment area. Ensure it is placed indoors, away from large metal objects that could interfere with the signal.

  • Place the transmitter in a stable, elevated position if possible.
  • Avoid placing it near large appliances or structures that could block the signal.

5.3 Setting the Boundary Range

The transmitter allows you to adjust the signal strength from 0 to 100 levels, corresponding to a radius of 20 to 500 meters (65 to 1640 feet). Use the MIN/MAX buttons on the transmitter to adjust the range. The LCD display will show the current signal strength level.

  1. Turn on the transmitter.
  2. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to increase or decrease the signal strength.
  3. Test the boundary: Walk with the receiver collar towards the edge of your desired containment area. The collar will beep, then vibrate, and finally deliver a static correction as you approach the boundary. Adjust the signal strength until the boundary matches your desired area.

5.4 Installing Boundary Flags

Use the provided boundary flags to visually mark the edge of the containment area. This helps your dog understand the boundary during initial training. Place flags approximately 10-15 feet apart along the perimeter where the receiver collar begins to activate.

5.5 Fitting the Receiver Collar

Proper fit of the receiver collar is crucial for effective operation and your dog's comfort.

  1. Select the appropriate metal probes (short for short-haired dogs, long for long-haired dogs) and screw them securely into the receiver.
  2. Place the collar around your dog's neck so that the contact points touch the skin.
  3. Adjust the strap to ensure a snug fit. You should be able to fit one or two fingers comfortably between the strap and your dog's neck. The collar should not be too loose, as this can prevent consistent contact, or too tight, which can cause irritation.
  4. Trim any excess strap if necessary.

6. Operating Instructions

The system operates on a progressive stimulation principle to gently guide your dog back into the safe zone.

Diagram showing the three progressive steps of receiver collar activation: Beep Warning, Vibration, and Static Shock.

Image 6.1: Receiver Collar Activation Sequence. This image illustrates the three-step process the receiver collar uses to correct a dog approaching the boundary: first a beep warning, then vibration, and finally a static shock if the dog continues to move out of bounds.

  1. Power On: Ensure both the transmitter and receiver collar(s) are charged and powered on. The receiver collar typically has an ON/OFF button and an LED indicator.
  2. Warning Tone: As your dog approaches the established boundary, the receiver collar will emit a warning tone. This is the first indication for your dog to turn back.
  3. Vibration: If your dog continues to move closer to or crosses the boundary after the warning tone, the collar will activate a vibration. The intensity of the vibration may increase as the dog gets closer to the boundary.
  4. Static Correction: If your dog persists in moving beyond the boundary after the warning tone and vibration, the system will deliver a mild, proportional static correction. The intensity of this correction increases the further the dog strays from the safe zone. The receiver will continue to work until your dog returns to the "safety zone."

It is crucial to conduct initial training sessions with your dog to help them understand the system and the meaning of the warning signals. Use positive reinforcement when your dog responds correctly and returns to the safe area.

7. Maintenance

  • Charging: Regularly charge the transmitter and receiver collars to ensure continuous operation. The devices use rechargeable lithium batteries.
  • Collar Cleaning: Periodically clean the receiver collar and contact points with a damp cloth. Ensure the charging port cover is securely closed to maintain its waterproof integrity.
  • Contact Point Inspection: Check the metal probes for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. Ensure they are making proper contact with your dog's skin.
  • Transmitter Care: Keep the transmitter in a dry, safe indoor location. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or moisture.
  • Skin Health: Regularly inspect your dog's neck for any signs of skin irritation, redness, or sores from the collar. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a veterinarian. Allow the skin to heal before resuming use, and ensure proper collar fit.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SXDD Wireless Dog Fence system, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Correction/Collar Not Activating:
    • Ensure both the transmitter and receiver collar are fully charged and powered on.
    • Check the collar fit; the contact points must touch your dog's skin.
    • Verify the signal strength setting on the transmitter. Increase it if the boundary is too small.
    • Test the receiver collar using the provided test light tool. Hold the test light across the contact points and walk towards the boundary. The light should flash when the collar activates.
    • Ensure there are no large metal objects or strong electromagnetic interference near the transmitter or boundary area.
  • Dog Crosses Boundary:
    • Re-evaluate the boundary range and adjust the signal strength on the transmitter.
    • Reinforce training with your dog. They may not fully understand the boundary.
    • Check the collar fit and ensure the contact points are making proper contact.
    • Ensure the receiver collar is charged and functioning correctly.
  • Inconsistent Boundary:
    • The wireless signal can be affected by terrain, large metal objects, or dense foliage. Try relocating the transmitter to a more open, central area.
    • Ensure the transmitter is not moved after the boundary has been set.
    • Check for other electronic devices that might cause interference.
  • Skin Irritation on Dog's Neck:
    • Remove the collar immediately. Allow your dog's neck to heal.
    • Ensure the collar is not too tight.
    • Limit collar wear to no more than 12 hours per day.
    • Clean the contact points and your dog's neck regularly.
    • Consider using longer or shorter probes if the current ones are not suitable for your dog's coat length.
