The Philips Portable Boombox is a versatile audio system designed for various playback options. It features a CD player, FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, USB input, and a headphone jack. The unit incorporates Dynamic Bass Boost for enhanced audio performance.

2.1 Main Unit Controls and Features

3. Setup

3.1 Power Connection

The boombox can be powered by AC mains or batteries.

  • AC Power: Connect the supplied power cord to the AC IN socket on the unit and then to a wall outlet.
  • Battery Power: Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit. Insert the required number of C-size batteries (not supplied), ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.

3.2 Remote Control Battery Installation

Insert one AAA battery (not supplied) into the remote control, observing the polarity markings inside the compartment.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 CD Playback

  1. Press the SOURCE button to select CD mode.
  2. Open the CD compartment cover.
  3. Place a CD (MP3-CD, CD, or CD-R/RW) with the label side facing up onto the spindle. Gently press the CD until it clicks into place.
  4. Close the CD compartment cover. The display will show the total number of tracks.
  5. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback.
  6. To skip tracks, press the FAST FORWARD or REWIND buttons.
  7. To pause, press PLAY/PAUSE. Press again to resume.
  8. To stop playback, press the STOP button.
  9. The Shuffle/Repeat function can be used to change playback order.

4.2 Bluetooth Streaming

The boombox supports wireless audio streaming from Bluetooth-enabled devices.

  1. Press the SOURCE button to select Bluetooth mode. The Bluetooth indicator will flash.
  2. On your Bluetooth device (e.g., smartphone, tablet), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
  3. Select "Philips134" (or similar name) from the list of devices to pair.
  4. Once paired, the Bluetooth indicator will glow steadily, and you can play audio from your device through the boombox.

4.2.1 NFC Pairing

For NFC-enabled devices, simply tap your device on the NFC area of the boombox to initiate Bluetooth pairing automatically.

4.3 FM Radio

  1. Press the SOURCE button to select FM radio mode.
  2. Extend the FM antenna for optimal reception.
  3. To tune manually, press the FAST FORWARD or REWIND buttons briefly.
  4. To auto-scan for stations, press and hold the FAST FORWARD or REWIND buttons. The radio will stop at the next strong station.
  5. To store a preset station, tune to the desired station, then press the PROG button. Use the ALBUM/PRESET buttons to select a preset number, then press PROG again to confirm.
  6. To recall a preset station, press the ALBUM/PRESET buttons.

4.4 USB Playback

  1. Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port.
  2. Press the SOURCE button to select USB mode.
  3. Playback will begin automatically. If not, press the PLAY/PAUSE button.
  4. Use the FAST FORWARD or REWIND buttons to navigate tracks.

4.5 Headphone Jack

Connect standard 3.5mm headphones to the headphone jack for private listening. Audio will be muted from the main speakers when headphones are connected.

4.6 Dynamic Bass Boost (DBB)

Press the DBB button on the unit or remote control to activate or deactivate the Dynamic Bass Boost feature. This function enhances bass frequencies, particularly at lower volume levels, to provide a richer sound.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Disconnect the power cord before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • For the CD lens, use a specialized CD lens cleaner.

5.2 Battery Care

  • Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
