General Safety:

  • Work Area: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection, a dust mask, and non-skid safety shoes. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area, especially when using polishing compounds that may release fumes.
  • Secure Grip: Always maintain a firm grip on the polisher with both hands during operation.

5.3 Polishing Techniques

HI BUFF Polisher with polishing pads

  • Surface Preparation: Ensure the vehicle surface is clean, dry, and free of contaminants before polishing.
  • Apply Compound: Apply a small amount of polishing compound directly to the pad or the work surface.
  • Sectioning: Work on small sections (e.g., 2x2 feet) at a time to ensure even coverage and optimal results.
  • Initial Spread: Start the polisher on a low speed (1-2) to spread the compound evenly over the section before increasing speed.
  • Movement: Move the polisher in a slow, overlapping cross-hatch pattern (up-down, then side-to-side) to ensure uniform coverage.
  • Pressure: Apply light to moderate, even pressure. The dual-action orbital motion does most of the work; excessive pressure can hinder its effectiveness and potentially damage the paint.
  • Pad Contact: Keep the pad flat against the surface at all times. Tilting the polisher can create uneven results or concentrate heat.
  • Wipe Off: After polishing a section, wipe off the residue with a clean microfiber towel before moving to the next section.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your HI BUFF polisher.

6.1 Cleaning

  • After Each Use: Disconnect the polisher from the power source. Wipe down the tool body with a clean, damp cloth to remove any compound residue or dust.
  • Air Vents: Periodically clear the air vents of any dust or debris using compressed air to prevent overheating.
  • Backing Plate: Clean the hook-and-loop surface of the backing plate to ensure proper pad adhesion.

6.2 Pad Care

  • Clean Pads: After each use, remove pads and clean them thoroughly with a dedicated pad cleaner or mild detergent and water. Rinse well and allow to air dry completely before storage.
  • Inspect Pads: Regularly inspect pads for wear, tears, or excessive caking of compound. Replace worn pads to maintain effective polishing.

6.3 Storage

Store the polisher in a clean, dry place, out of reach of children. Protect it from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the power cord is neatly coiled and not kinked.
