Key Components:

  • Radome: Protective cover for the antenna.
  • Antenna Feed: Integrates the radio into the feedhorn.
  • Ethernet Port: For network connection and Power over Ethernet (PoE).
  • Reset Button: Used to restore factory default settings.
  • Release Button: Engages or disengages the Antenna Feed from the Rear Housing.
  • Reflector: The main dish component for signal direction.
  • Mounting Bracket: Secures the device to a pole or surface.
  • Alignment Pins: Guide the assembly of components.
  • Rear Housing: Encloses the internal electronics.
  • Cable Door: Provides access for cable routing.

Button Functions:

Reset Button: To reset the device to factory defaults, press and hold the Reset button for more than 10 seconds while the PowerBeam is powered on. Alternatively, the PowerBeam can be reset remotely via a Reset button located on the bottom of the Gigabit PoE adapter.

Release Button: After assembling the PowerBeam, ensure the Release button is fully engaged in the Release Button Slot of the Rear Housing. This secures the Antenna Feed. To remove the Antenna Feed, you must depress the Release button first.

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to assemble and install your PowerBeam ac device.

1. Assembly

  1. Attach the Antenna Feed to the Reflector, ensuring the alignment pins are correctly seated.
  2. Secure the Rear Housing to the assembled Antenna Feed and Reflector. Ensure the Release Button engages properly.
  3. Install the Radome onto the front of the Reflector.
  4. Attach the Mounting Bracket and Adjustment Bracket to the Rear Housing using the provided bolts and nuts.

2. Mounting

The PowerBeam ac is designed for outdoor pole mounting. Use the Pole Clamps and Carriage Bolts to securely attach the Mounting Bracket to a sturdy pole. The mounting bracket allows for 20° of uptilt and 10° of downtilt, with ±15° of tilt adjustment for precise aiming.

3. Power and Network Connection

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the PowerBeam ac's Ethernet port to the PoE port on the Gigabit PoE adapter.
  2. Connect another Ethernet cable from your network (e.g., router, switch) to the LAN port on the Gigabit PoE adapter.
  3. Connect the Power Cord to the Gigabit PoE adapter and then to a power outlet.
  4. Ensure all connections are secure and weatherproofed for outdoor deployment.

Operation

The PowerBeam ac utilizes Ubiquiti's airOS v7, an advanced operating system for managing your wireless link.

1. Accessing airOS v7

After connecting the device, access the airOS v7 web interface via a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the LAN port of the PoE adapter. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for initial IP address and login credentials.

2. Configuration Modes

  • Point-to-Point (PtP) Link Mode: Ideal for long-range direct links. Supports selectable channel widths of 10/20/30/40/50/60/80 MHz.
  • Point-to-MultiPoint (PtMP) Mode: Used when the device acts as a client to an airMAX ac BaseStation. Supports selectable channel widths of 10/20/30/40 MHz.

3. Key Features and Settings

  • Automatic/Manual Transmit Power Control: Adjust transmit power for optimal performance and compliance.
  • Automatic Distance Selection (ACK Timing): Optimizes timing for varying link distances.
  • WPA2 Security: Ensure your wireless link is secured with robust WPA2 encryption.
  • RF Analytics and airView Spectrum Analyzer: Utilize the built-in tools for advanced RF analysis, spectrum monitoring, and interference detection to optimize link performance.
  • Dynamic Configuration Changes: airOS v7 allows for instant input validation and dynamic changes.
  • Mobile Optimization: The interface is optimized for access via mobile devices.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your PowerBeam ac device.

  • Physical Inspection: Periodically inspect the device and mounting hardware for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections.
  • Cleaning: Keep the Radome and Reflector clean from dirt, dust, and debris to prevent signal degradation. Use a soft, damp cloth.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the Ubiquiti support website for the latest airOS v7 firmware updates. Applying updates can improve performance, add features, and enhance security.
  • Environmental Checks: Ensure the installation site remains free from obstructions and that the device is not exposed to extreme environmental conditions beyond its operating specifications.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your PowerBeam ac.

  • Device Not Responding: If the device is unresponsive, try power cycling it. If the issue persists, perform a factory reset by holding the Reset button for over 10 seconds while powered on, or use the reset button on the PoE adapter.
  • No Network Connectivity:
    • Verify all Ethernet cable connections are secure and functional.
    • Check the status LEDs on the device and PoE adapter.
    • Ensure the PoE adapter is receiving power.
    • Confirm correct IP address configuration and network settings in airOS v7.
  • Poor Link Performance:
    • Check antenna alignment. Even slight misalignments can significantly impact performance.
    • Use the airView Spectrum Analyzer in airOS v7 to identify and mitigate interference.
    • Adjust channel width and frequency settings for optimal performance in your environment.
    • Ensure there are no physical obstructions in the line of sight between devices.
  • Cannot Access Web Interface:
    • Ensure your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the PowerBeam ac's management IP.
    • Try a different web browser.
    • Clear browser cache.
    • If the IP address is unknown, a factory reset will revert it to default.
