6.3 Installation Steps

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the outlet you are replacing or installing. Turn it OFF. Use a voltage tester to confirm that the power is off at the outlet.
  2. Remove Old Receptacle (if applicable): Unscrew the wall plate and then the mounting screws holding the old receptacle in place. Carefully pull the old receptacle out of the electrical box. Disconnect the wires, noting which wire was connected to which terminal.
  3. Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inch of insulation from the ends of the electrical wires. Ensure the wire ends are clean and straight.
  4. Connect Wires:
    • Connect the black (hot) wire to the brass-colored screws.
    • Connect the white (neutral) wire to the silver-colored screws.
    • Connect the green or bare copper (ground) wire to the green grounding screw.

Choose either the side wire method (wrapping around screws) or the quick push-in method (inserting into back holes for 14AWG only). Ensure connections are tight and no bare wire is exposed beyond the terminals.

  5. Mount Receptacle: Carefully fold the wires into the electrical box. Insert the new ELEGRP receptacle into the box and secure it with the provided mounting screws. Ensure the receptacle is flush with the wall. Break-off plaster ears can be used for better alignment.
  6. Install Wall Plate: Attach the new or existing decorator-style wall plate over the receptacle.
  7. Restore Power: Go back to the circuit breaker or fuse box and turn the power back ON.
  8. Test: Test the newly installed receptacle with a known working appliance or a receptacle tester.

7. Operating Instructions

The ELEGRP Decorator Receptacle operates like any standard electrical outlet. Simply insert the plug of your appliance or device into the receptacle slots. Ensure the plug is fully inserted for a secure connection.

  • This receptacle is rated for 15 Amps and 125 Volts. Do not overload the circuit.
  • Avoid using damaged plugs or cords, as this can cause electrical hazards.
  • Unplug devices by pulling on the plug, not the cord.

8. Maintenance

Your ELEGRP Decorator Receptacle requires minimal maintenance. Regular inspection and cleaning will help ensure its longevity and safe operation.

  • Cleaning: To clean the receptacle and wall plate, first turn off power at the circuit breaker. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the surface. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the surface is completely dry before restoring power.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the receptacle for any signs of damage, such as cracks, discoloration, or loose connections. If any damage is observed, turn off power and replace the receptacle immediately.
  • Tightness: If the receptacle feels loose in the wall, turn off power and gently tighten the mounting screws. Do not overtighten.
