Installation Guide

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your tankless water heater. It is highly recommended that installation be performed by a qualified electrician and plumber in accordance with all local and national electrical and plumbing codes.

Before Installation:

  • Verify that the electrical supply meets the unit's requirements (240V, 12KW).
  • Ensure adequate water pressure and flow rate for optimal performance.
  • Select a suitable wall-mounted location, considering proximity to water lines, electrical panel, and drainage.
  • Ensure sufficient rear spacing for proper ventilation and access to connections.

Connections:

The unit features clearly marked inlet and outlet connections for water. The electrical connection should be made directly to a dedicated circuit breaker of appropriate amperage.

Sizing and Capacity

The required capacity of your tankless water heater depends on your geographical location's inlet water temperature and your household's hot water demand. Refer to the map and tables below to determine the appropriate model for your needs.

Map of the USA, Canada, Hong Kong, and Puerto Rico showing average inlet water temperatures by region, with a color-coded legend. Below the map are tables for different Thermoflow models (Elex 3.5, 5.5, 8, 12, 18, 24) indicating GPM and approximate usage based on inlet temperature, and a table of typical GPM for various fixtures.

Water heater sizing guide based on geographical inlet temperature and typical fixture usage.

Understanding the Sizing Guide:

  • Inlet Temperature Map: Identify your region on the map to find the average inlet water temperature. Colder inlet temperatures require more energy to heat water to the desired output temperature.
  • GPM (Gallons Per Minute) Tables: These tables show the flow rate (GPM) that each Thermoflow model can provide at different inlet temperatures, assuming an outlet temperature of 105°F.
  • Approximate Usage: The icons next to the GPM values indicate the number of fixtures that can be supplied simultaneously at that flow rate.
  • Typical Fixture GPM: Use this table to estimate your household's peak hot water demand. For example, a standard shower head uses about 2.0 GPM.

Choose a model that can meet your peak hot water demand based on your local inlet water temperature. If you are unsure, it is generally better to select a model with a slightly higher capacity than you anticipate needing.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your Thermoflow tankless water heater. Always disconnect power to the unit before performing any maintenance.

  • Filter Cleaning: Periodically inspect and clean the inlet water filter to prevent sediment buildup, which can reduce flow and efficiency.
  • Descaling: In areas with hard water, mineral deposits (scale) can accumulate inside the heating elements. It is recommended to descale the unit annually or as needed using a descaling solution. Consult a professional if you are unsure about this procedure.
  • Leak Inspection: Regularly check all water connections for any signs of leaks. Address any leaks immediately to prevent damage to the unit or surrounding property.
  • External Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

WARNING: Always disconnect the device from electricity before removing any covers or performing maintenance to avoid electric shock.
