Setup

1. Power Connection

  1. Connect the supplied AC power adapter to the DC 9V 2A input jack on the rear of the unit.
  2. Plug the AC power adapter into a standard wall outlet.

2. Battery Backup Installation

The RCR-30 uses 1 'A' battery (included) for clock backup during power outages.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit.
  2. Insert the 'A' battery, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3. Antenna Connection

For optimal FM reception, extend the FM wire antenna located at the rear of the unit. Position it for the best signal.

4. Initial Clock Setting

The clock can be set manually or automatically via FM-RBDS (Radio Broadcast Data System).

  • Automatic Setting (RDS): If an FM station broadcasting RDS time data is tuned, the clock may automatically synchronize. Ensure this feature is enabled in the settings menu. Note that some local stations may transmit inaccurate time data; manual adjustment may be required.
  • Manual Setting: Refer to the 'Operating' section for detailed steps on manually setting the time and date.

Operation

Power On/Off

Press the Power button (Power icon) on the top panel to turn the unit on or off.

Volume and Tone Control

Rotate the VOLUME/TONE dial on the left side of the top panel to adjust the audio volume. Press the dial to cycle through tone settings (Bass, Treble, Loudness) and rotate to adjust them.

Radio Operation (AM/FM)

  1. Press the SOURCE button to select FM or AM band.
  2. Rotate the TUNING/SEEK dial on the right side to manually tune to a station.
  3. Press the TUNING/SEEK dial to automatically seek the next available station.
  4. To save a preset: Tune to the desired station, then press and hold one of the preset buttons (1-5) until the display confirms it is saved.
  5. To recall a preset: Briefly press the corresponding preset button (1-5).

Bluetooth Pairing and Playback

  1. Press the SOURCE button to select Bluetooth mode. The display will show 'PAIRING' or a similar indicator.
  2. On your Bluetooth-enabled device, search for 'Sangean RCR-30' and select it to pair.
  3. Once paired, you can stream audio from your device to the RCR-30.
  4. Use the Skip buttons (Skip icon) on the top panel to navigate tracks.

Aux-in Connection

Connect an external audio device (e.g., MP3 player) to the AUX IN jack on the rear panel using a 3.5mm audio cable. Press the SOURCE button to select AUX mode.

Alarm Settings

The RCR-30 features multiple alarms. Press and hold the Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 button to enter alarm setup mode. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the alarm time, source (radio, buzzer, sound soother), and volume.

Sleep Timer

When the unit is on, press the Power button repeatedly to cycle through sleep timer durations (e.g., 60, 30, 15 minutes). The unit will automatically turn off after the selected time.

Sound Soother Function

Press the Sound Soother button (often represented by a moon or wave icon) to activate the built-in soothing sounds. Use the corresponding buttons (1-5) to select different soundscapes (e.g., rain, ocean, forest).

USB Charging

The RCR-30 includes a USB port (5V 1A, Charge Only) on the rear panel. Connect your smartphone or other USB-powered device using its charging cable to charge it.

Display Dimmer

Press the SNOOZE/DIMMER button to adjust the brightness level of the LCD display. Multiple levels are available, including an 'off' setting for minimal light disturbance.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.

Battery Replacement

If the clock time is not retained during a power outage, the backup battery may need replacement. Follow the steps in the 'Battery Backup Installation' section to replace the 'A' battery.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure the AC adapter is securely connected to both the unit and a working power outlet. Check the power outlet with another device.
  • Poor Radio Reception: Extend and reposition the FM wire antenna. For AM, try rotating the unit to improve reception. Keep the unit away from other electronic devices that may cause interference.
  • Clock Time Inaccurate: If using RDS for time synchronization, try manually setting the time. Some broadcast stations may transmit incorrect RDS time data.
  • Bluetooth Pairing Issues: Ensure the RCR-30 is in Bluetooth pairing mode. Delete 'Sangean RCR-30' from your device's Bluetooth list and attempt to pair again. Ensure your device is within range.
  • AM Radio Interference: If experiencing interference on AM bands, try moving the AC power adapter further away from the radio unit.
