3. Operating

3.1. Display Features

The Redmi Note 8 features a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with a 1080p resolution. The display offers good black levels and high maximum brightness, reaching up to 470 nits in manual mode and up to 630 nits in auto mode under bright sunlight. 3.2. Fingerprint Sensor

The device is equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for secure and quick unlocking. Simply place your registered finger on the sensor to wake and unlock the phone instantly.

3.3. User Interface (MIUI)

The Redmi Note 8 runs on MIUI 11, based on Android 9 Pie. The interface does not feature an app drawer; all app icons are placed directly on the home screens. Swiping left from the main home screen provides access to a variety of shortcuts and widgets. MIUI 11 also includes a system-wide Dark Mode, which changes the aesthetic of menus to a darker theme.

3.4. IR Blaster

An infrared (IR) blaster is located at the top of the phone, allowing you to use your Redmi Note 8 as a universal remote control for various home appliances such as TVs, air conditioners, and more, via the pre-installed Mi Remote app.

3.5. Audio Features

The Redmi Note 8 features a single bottom-firing speaker that utilizes a sound chamber for enhanced amplification. It also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio connections. The device scored an excellent mark in loudness tests, though audio quality via the headphone jack may exhibit some distortion and limited stereo separation.

4. Maintenance

4.1. Water Resistance

While the Redmi Note 8 does not have an official IP rating for water resistance, it features a nano-coating on its internal components, providing a degree of splash resistance. This means the phone can withstand minor splashes or light rain, but it should not be submerged in water.

4.2. Device Protection

The Redmi Note 8 comes with a clear silicone case in the box. It is recommended to use this case to protect your device from accidental drops and scratches, and to improve grip as the glass back can be slippery.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1. Performance Issues

The Redmi Note 8 is powered by the Snapdragon 665 chipset, offering good performance for its price range. It handles most games and daily tasks without significant issues or overheating. If you experience slowdowns, try clearing recent apps or restarting the device.

5.2. Unwanted Advertisements

Occasionally, you might encounter banner advertisements within some of the pre-installed MIUI apps, such as the File Manager or Security app. These are generally infrequent and do not significantly impact the user experience.
