2. Important Safety Information

4. Installation

Installation must be performed by a qualified professional. Failure to follow these instructions can result in property damage, injury, or death.

4.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack the water heater and inspect it for any shipping damage. Ensure all components listed in the packing list are present:

4.2 Location Requirements

  • Mount the unit vertically on a solid wall surface.
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 4 inches (10 cm) from the wall to the unit's side.
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 4 inches (10 cm) from the ceiling to the top of the unit.
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 8 inches (20 cm) from the floor to the bottom of the unit.
  • Ensure the location allows for easy access for maintenance and service.

4.3 Mounting the Unit

4.4 Plumbing Connections

  • The water inlet and outlet connections are located at the back of the unit. These are 1/2 inch connections.
  • Connect the cold water supply to the inlet (blue marking) and the hot water outlet (red marking) to your plumbing system.
  • Install the provided inlet connector with filter and gaskets.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free.
  • Flush the system thoroughly before connecting power to remove any air or debris.

4.5 Electrical Connections

WARNING: Electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician. Ensure power is OFF at the main breaker before proceeding.

  • The unit requires two dedicated 240V circuits, each protected by a 60-amp double-pole breaker.
  • Connect two L1 and L2 wires (hot wires) for each circuit, along with a single ground wire. This unit does not require a neutral wire.
  • Ensure all wiring complies with local and national electrical codes.
  • The internal wiring includes a PA16H Terminal Block, Heating Elements, and an Electronic Control Module. Refer to the internal diagram for reference, but do not attempt to modify internal components.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Initial Startup

  1. After plumbing connections are complete and checked for leaks, open a hot water faucet in your home to allow water to flow through the unit for several minutes. This purges air from the system.
  2. Once water flows steadily from the faucet, close the faucet.
  3. Turn on the electrical power to the unit at the main breaker.
  4. The unit's display will illuminate.

5.2 Setting Temperature

The Thermoflow Elex features a smart touch screen for temperature control:

  • Press the ON/OFF button to activate the unit.
  • Use the 'High' (up arrow) and 'Low' (down arrow) buttons to adjust the desired output temperature. The backlit LCD digital display panel will show the current temperature setting.

5.3 Water Flow Activation

  • The unit requires a minimum flow rate of approximately 0.66 GPM to activate heating. If the water flow is below this threshold, the unit will not engage the heating elements.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Flushing the Unit

6.2 Cleaning the Inlet Filter

The inlet connector includes a filter to prevent debris from entering the unit. Periodically inspect and clean this filter. To do so:
